Hi Joe, are you modeling this as a WW2 DUKW? If so don't forget (like I did) to fill the drainage slots along the side stiffners. This will look good with the 6lb gun as a load.

I am glad that someone else can accieve that natural dusty look too #:-)

thanks for the replies guys,

Roo- it will be a ww2 machine, did they not have those slots?
Slodder-thanks for pointing that out, ill sort it
Tazz, the DUKW is the italeri kit, the gun is the ancient tamiya 6 pounder, it was only the 5th military kit they ever made, and is long OOP but you can find them easily on eBay.

the seam line on the barrel is now gone, and the drainage slots have been filled with milliput and sanded smooth,

im thinking of adding the figures from the tamiya churchill to make a nice little dio

HI, im sorry but why do you say that the drainage holes need to be filled in, The drainage holes were always there, my dad and i have restored a couple of Dukws, and the all had these drainage hole cut into the side stiffeners, if they werent there the stiffenters would just rust off becsue the water couldnt escape from them. Just my opinion

when the DUKW first appeared in WW2 the drainage holes were NOT installed. This indead lead to a serious rust problem and the slots were added at this stage (postwar) to solve the problem.

so I am sorry War tool they were NOT ALWAYS there. To depict a genuine WW2 DUKW you must fill these slots.

I have one waiting on my shelf. When I see these pics, I can't hardly wait. But then again...let's finish what I've started first!
A very nice touch with the Tamiya gun on her back!
