Let's hope that:

a) it isn't vapour-ware, and

b) they add some DS "canvas" covers for the main gun and the TC cupola!

Could be a real contender, especially if they also add all the foundry marks that Academy forgot...

While not my cup of tea, I'm glad to see DML doing other topics besides German WW2.

I have the Academy and have built a Tamiya,I can't wait to build this side by side with the Academy.
But
Looking at the CAD of the gunner's hatch,I think they got that very wrong, where the hinge to hatch is. And the sight housing looks wrong,I will know more whan I get actual plastic in my hands.

I am not seeing canvas covers for the main gun or the TC cupola in the CAD images.

Now, let's wait and see if DRAGON's M60A2 matches up to AFV CLUB's, though I fear that AFV CLUB will make us wait, and wait, and wait, in lieu of more German WWII stuff...

Is there an AM provider for the commander's .50 cal barrel, the one with the "fluted" flash suppressor? All of the kit versions only have what appears to be a cone on the end of the barrel, as it's otherwise impossible to render in injected-molded plastic.

Hmm. That's the armoured top-loader, a late addition to the M60. Most of the A2 pics I've seen have the earlier aluminium unarmoured top-loader, but I think I've seen a few with the side-loader too. Certainly none of the A2s I can recall had that late top-loader. Let's hope DML catches this before cutting any tooling.

I was trained on the M60A1 and A2 back in 1975 at Knox and ended up in a M551 in the 2nd Cavalry in Germany. I have waited for a long time for Dragon to produce a version of both vehicles that would be of a quality of the German offerings. I'm hoping a Sheridan gets the attention from

On my thank, the top surface was flat, and only had a small bevel, towards the turret ring side.

Thanks for the info Carl - that's what I meant. The pictures of M60A2s I've seen show the air cleaners with a flat top surface rather than the kind with the sloped front. So just curious whether anyone has pictures of an A2 with the pattern Dragon shows.

I crewed the A2 when I was in the Army. I've been waiting for this kit. The tamiya kit has/is lacking. I will place my order ASAP.

Good point, and, BTW the material was not actually canvas, but a rubberized stressed fabric that appeared to me to be synthetic. Unpainted it had a lime green color. That being said, it was relatively durable and held cammo paint well considering the wear and tear factor.

The searchlight cover and coax port cover were canvas however.

Here is me and my A2 in the field ...Hohenfels FRG circa 1978






You can see in the second pic that we had been supplied with later revision track (replaceable pads). SO, a later representation A2 would be correct in having either type. I really like the AFV club offering and will probably use it in my build.

The kit is Dragon, I was referring to the AFV club aftermarket indie track.
