The review on the rounds looks pretty good. So does anyone know if they have been released yet? Has any one bought the rounds if so how do they compare to the Verlinden PE set? And does anyone have a price on them?

Hopefully that link will work, thats where the bullets are found at..

There was a mention about them in the latest Tamiya Magazine. The pic of them looked great. Depends how detailed you want to get and how much you want tot spend IMHO.

$55 are you serious!??!?!?? There isnt that much in there for it to cost that much. Dang! I wanted a lot of detail but that much money for that little of a product aint worth it.

zer0_co0l--how do you make your bullets from brass rod? Iam looking for shell casings do you just cut them to various lengths?

thanks,
Mike

Just checked Mision Models and the .50 Cal. set is available at $16.00 per set.

And making the links for the rounds looks like it will be a real bear! They assemble just like the real thing.

$55? Thats alot for 50 cal. shells! Are they plastic on sprues or are they metal in a bag? How many do you get for that much?

As yagdpanzer has already pointed out they are not $55, they are priced at $16/set. I saw them this past Saturday at a show and they look good, but I think I might go crazy trying to assemble the ammo belt and shells.

I have three of their sets: .50 cal loaded, .50 cal spent, and German 20mm Flak (spent).

Each set is $16. Each set is easily worth the price.

The .50 cal rounds have the right shape and tapers. They also have the divot in the center of the shell-bottom for the primer. The spent rounds (.50 and 20mm) are hollowed out, with impossibly-thin walls on the casings. I mean unreally thin.

Yes, the links for the .50 will be a real bear. But I already have a use in mind for the two .50 sets, and I'll deal with the links when the time comes...

When I stopped by Mission Models in November, Jon showed me the first of the .50 cal rounds and links. My first thought was that my prescription needed updating, or I should have brought the Optivisor with me!! SMAL doesn't begin to capture the look, yet, very realistic in appearance. The inclusion of the links brings a new detail that hasn't been available up to that point. I just can't handle trying to form a bunch of links that are that small. I'll probably use the cutt brass rod sections as before, and wish for the time and patirence that would allow me to use those links from Mission Models!1

Oh, well if there $16 that isnt too bad. I'll have to pick up a few sets.
Does anyone know if the spent shells come with the links as well?

All they need now is to make a 30cal. set...now that is small!

thanks,
Mike

I saw some of each at a local hobby shop the other day. They are real nice to look at (if you have good eye sight) but I could see myself working on them and everytime one went flying , I would be saying "there goes another $.66" because for $16.50 you get 25 each.

I had fun messing with a couple of packs of the spent shells this weekend. All I did was planted them on some double-sided tape, shot them with dullcote, and then washed them with Raw Umber oils when dry. Nice result, and better looking than when I was trimming lengths of styrene rod...

They are really tiny though - I was afraid to sneeze, move too fast, or open the windows...

I just bought a set of these today, as a matter of fact. They cost $16.00 at Hobbtytown USA. They look incredible, very well detailed and I am sure they will be a royal pain in the royal rooty-pa-tooty to work with, but I think they will be a very nice addition when I am done. However, for 16 dollars, you only get 25 rounds and that isn't enough to do a belt from the far side of the ammo tray into the ma duece, so I would recommend getting 2 sets if you get them.

By the way, I think the 55 dollars you saw was the price on the trumpeter and dragon Leopold railway gun barrels.
