I' starting another big one.
Here's the Box Art

The Frame is a really huge piece, man they really did it this time with the slide molds.
The 4 tabs where the springs mount need their sides shoved down a little, they taper and the mounts for the swing arms that go over them have a really tight fit.

There are 4 parts like this for mounting the 2 differentials both front and rear, the center opening needs the edge trimmed a little to get the differentials to fit correctly .

See , it's a really tight fit if you don't trim as in Pic.#4

The bottom of the 2 axles , a little filling on the seams is needed here.

The top of the 2 axles , I did some filling here, but I don't think this part will be seen.

The edges where the mounts attach to the frame need a little trimming too to keep everything snug .

I added the 3 rods and joined every thing together, starting with the Differential to the mounts then the mounts to the frame. Everything has a very tight fit.

Now repeat for the rear assembly

This is great! Thank you for posting this build and pointing out the fixes... I've been thinking about getting this kit, so I'll be following closely

My Wife keeps making room for them, I don't Drink or Smoke or chase loose Women.
She says that it keeps me out of trouble, so she keeps on ordering them. I wasn't going to do any more builds but she insists.
I cant loose for winning.
Ok enough BS back to the build.

I almost screwed up and installed C3 & C4 before the small shaft.

Well that's as far as I have gone so far, there isn't any drive shafts from front to back, & the steering is weird.

Hi Donald,

Interesting build log as always. I've built a few of the Panda 1/35 version of this. It seems getting the suspension parts to go together as shown in the directions is a challenge for both. For the 1/35 kit, many of the parts need to be cut, sanded, or drilled out to be assembled (at all) - not just to avoid tight fits. Do you characterize your work so far as being typical clean up of parts, or extensive work to get the parts to go together?

Very nice build -

Cheers

I think that so far it is normal clean up work, Trumpeter used a lot of slide molds and some of the areas that I have noted so far without a slight taper to the parts, you wouldn't get them out of the molds.
Some areas are greatly simplified , and some have really great detail.
I just finished the Wheels, they suck. According to the PMMS sight Blast Models have a set of replacement wheels coming out. I'm just not sure that it's worth putting more money into this kit.
I think that I'll wait until more of it is finished.
There isn't any internal equipment for the insides.
My impression of this kit so far is that it's part TOY and Part model kit. Oh well time will tell.
Donald

Very nice build -

Cheers
Nick

I will follow this to see what your thoughts are. I worked through about 6 steps or so and said 'forget it'. It was too clunky and too chunky. 1/35 is a lot better.

Keep up the great work!

I agree it is kind of clunky, I just finished the wheels and tires.
I'm not to happy with them.
They are following this post.

Now the Wheels.

You will have to trim the inside area shown if you want them to rotate .

I don't know what Trumpeters idea was, putting this bulge on the Wheel rim? It just makes getting the Tire on a lot more work.

The Tires aren't molded really well, I put the best side to the outside where it will be seen the most. It's hard to keep them in the correct position.

Some close up of the assembled wheels with the tires.

I put the worst tire for the spare close to the body mount so that most of it can't be seen.

The best side goes to the outside.

This is why I usually don't do wheeled vehicles.
When I do I usually buy resin replacement wheels.

Below is a Pic. of some replacement wheels from Blast Models
You can view it more where it is listed at the PMMS web site.

I am not connected with this company in any way.
I tried to go to their web site from the link at PMMS but my security service warned me off.
I have no idea of what they cost or where you can get them.

Oh well maby DEF Models will do a set at a reasonable price.

To be continued (Maby)

I don't know about their 1/16th stuff but their 1/35th stuff is great! Their castings are as good as any out there.

I've been working on the interior, everything here is just test fitted.

There aren't any seat belts or the buckles fore them provided in the kit. The seat backs are hollow, they should be smooth across the back.

That's all for now.

I have a little more done.
Here I sprayed the lights with multiple coats of Alclad II over gloss black.

Here is a close up, it came out really good.

I used part of a extra Tasca sherman road wheel to mask off the chromed parts. A little white glue works just fine.

I added some bolt heads around the top edge of the rear frame.

That's all for now.

Following this build with interest.........my youngest son drove one of these during (3) tours in Iraq.
Lost two good friends ahead of him in the convoy to an "RPG".

Great blog Donald!

Curse you, as now I want to take a crack at one of these 1/16th beasts! The sherman road wheel mask really puts the build into perspective. Pity about the kit wheels.

I have been working on the Doors, they need a lot of trimming both on the Doors and their openings .
