I've asked a lot of questions here. Im Glad I got very nice people to help me out when I first joined. Otherwise I may have not been back if people were rude.
Ask away Blackmass. Lord knows I have.
Cheers,
Dustin

Guys, before building or even buying a model...Please know what you are talking about before opening mouth. Research is there for a reason. Granted, I have been building models longer than most of you have been alive...but really.
MAIN reason I'm not overly fond of these forums.......nice for tips, etc. - but always the rude & elitist have to rear their heads.

Rivet counters and know it alls really know how to discourage people who just want to build models for fun to not want to build at all !!!! I was told many moons ago the only dumb question is the one that wasn't asked. I thought these forums were for modelers to help each other but I guess there will always be a few that think they are better and smarter than everyone else ! Black mass don't let the idiots bother you just laugh at them like I do lol

Quick and simple solution. Are the guns on the Panther and Kingtiger the same size?
If the MG34 or some other component shared by both tanks is smaller on the Kingtiger then it is 1:48. If not then they are the same scale.
Wont work with the figures have you seen the 1/48 Universal carrier driver in there figure set he`s TINY!

That's the whole point .
If there is a big difference in size of the figs or the tools , MG etc - then they are different scales .

Can Black Mass post pics of the two kits side by side? Then we can all see. But as been said, the KT was only slightly larger than the Panther; it's reputation was much bigger!

Some have metal lower hulls, others have weights that you slot in.
I have to say I'm somewhat astounded and disappointed at the amount of agro in this thread.

I was about to ask the same, and maybe identify which Tamiya kit numbers are these?
But as said there's not much difference in dimensions so that accounts for the look of being similar in size.
Do build on Black Mass, ask questions, and share. BTW your handle reminds of the film having such title -- awesome movie especially make-up, never thought the actor underneath was Depp.

Both of Tamiya's 1/48 KTs were released with white metal hulls and have done been re-done with the plastic hull/metal weight combo.

It looks like I am not the only guy here who does not make the cut on that elite group, the Get Along Gang. Can't you all just get along?
I will say the difference between 1/48 and 1/35 is pretty staggering. It is a rather embarrassing gaffe to conflate the two, even though the King Tiger's size may not be quite what it is fabled to be
Could be an expectation versus reality situation. One tends to think that the King Tiger was a massive tank and the Panther was average.

I have seen both up close. The Panther is surprisingly large. The king Tiger is about what you think it should be.

I like this post...it brings back the day after I'd built the Panther that I started to build the Tamiya Porsche Tiger Ii. With no internet (it didn't exist yet) I couldn't ask anybody 'in the know' what was going on with this suspicious size discepency.
So, I built it anyway.
I appreciate the modellers here who are quick to offer assistance no matter how obvious the answer might be to some.

It's amazing that in 30 minutes of searching I could find almost a dozen different dimensions for the hulls of the Panther and Tiger II. Each. The difference in the Panther ranges from 6.87m to 7.1m (hull only no gun) while the Tiger II from 6.26m (wth) to 7.4m. The Tiger is definitely the larger but some of the info on these sites seems to be made up, copied from other sites without checking accuracy or the conversion from metric to english (and vice versa) was way off. Sometimes I just want to go to the museums around the globe and measure all the vehicles and get the right dimensions to every AFV out there. Back when I started building (40+ years ago but I've been on hiatus for awhile) you didn't have this ready source of info so I had to go to the library to get info on what I was building. Plus the kits in those days weren't all that interested in accuracy.
Now the rivet counters take the joy out building by belittling those who are new or who have questions. As Raider said "the only dumb question is the one that wasn't asked" so regardless of other peoples attitudes don't hesitate to ask

So, it's not a Tiger II, but a I, and in some ways the confusion over size is more understandable as the Panther is actually longer, which is perhaps counterintuitive. The Tiger is like a heavy version of the PzKpfw IV, a rectangular box, with basically vertical ends while the Panther had sloped armour so the length is bigger in order to achieve the necessary internal volume.

firstly , a bit confusing on the image post directions.
secondly . whoa , its not pedestrian or getting cobwebs in the armourama forums .....
thirdly , guilty as charged . didn't do my homework before posting. deserve a bit of a lashing for that....
so , the PKT hull is next to my last remaining model from 20 years ago. (never built a panther) my (false) recollections was the KT was bigger - I had also made JagdT.
well , here I am getting back to the hobby and its great to come across this site!
my question on airbrushing decals is for another post, and yes , that is my zimmerit on the T1 is from 20 years ago. putty and 1/72 tank track .....
so cheers to you all , and i'll post any progress!
also - why isn't there a preview for the posts?
