Anyone know the actual dimensions of the resupply cannisters. Scaling them I am coming up with about 18-20 inches by about 6 feet. Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Shaun

Shaun,

I don't know the exact measures, but Nate provided an good reference picture in his article on painting Dennison Smocks :

Maybe this helps a tiny bit too.

Hornet makes the canisters in resin (I think it's resin), I saw them advertised on R&J productions just the other day, so it might make your job a bit easier.

Thanks everyone. Found a picture of the Hornet ones over at Hometown Hobbies. I may just go ahead and buy them.

Thanks again.

I have the Hornet canisters. They are metal, not resin. You get two and can be assembled open or closed.

Resicast also makes a canister. it is bundled with a bunch of other airborne parachute packages. I think it's 25Euros or US$32

I think these Resicast items are awesome to look at, but way to expensive to buy myself.

The Resicast stuff does look nice. Thanks for the picture Shermie. I think it may be a bit much for my wallet, too.
The petrol cans in the container are a neat touch. I was Googling yesterday searching for dimensions and learned that the British had a hard time designing cans that would stand up to the parachute landings. They made ribbed (for strength) cans that fit snuggly in the containers.

I made a mistake when I made my cannisters. Refering to the Hornet pic the open container has a bulge on the left end of the cannister. The chute is attached to the opposite end so that the cap hits the ground. When it hits the ground the cap is crushed to absorb some of the blow. I did not crush the end in my battle scene.

Shermie,

Don't bother about it too much. A lot of cannisters landed in trees and therefore didn't bump into the ground leaving the cap ok. You cannister is just one of those that landed in trees.
