Anyone know if there is an aftermarket BMP-1 turret out there that has those anti-radiation panels added to the exterior? If not, any thoughts on how to replicate this / any links to detailed pics? Seems to be pretty common on currently serving vehicles but it's tough to find detailed pictures.
Thanks in advance,
John

I checked SP's products. The pics appear to show bare turret sides/tops. No anti-radiation panels present.

Are you sure you are not thinking of the BMP-2? I have no knowledge of any BMP-1's getting the anti-radiation armor added to the turret. Any pictures of what you are trying to model?

I'm striking out with finding other pics but here is a link to a pic of the Trumpeter BMP-1P turret that illustrates what I am talking about.

I'm stuck with the earlier Trumpy BMP-1, looking for any aftermarket upgrades that will allow me to replicate that later version turret. I assume the extra panels on this turret are anti-radiation liners? Or are they just standard applique armor plates?

Its just add on armor on the 1P turret, not anti rad.

First: The BMP-1, P or otherwise, with the anti-nuetron armor is a-typical of BMP-1's. There are a lot of pictures of both BMP-1 and BMP-1P without it, even if they are rebuilt BMP-1 to weld the AT-3 reload door shut and a mount for the AT-4 is welded to the turret (as apposed to the factory made BMP-1P turret with no AT-3 access door, launch rail, or rail mount).
The anti-rad armor IS included in the Trumpeter BMP-1P kit, but it is not necessary to add it.
BTW, the BMP-1's with this add-on armor are sometimes known as BMP-1D's, if that helps. I am in contact with SP Designs to see if Sergej wants to do a turret with this added layer.

Thanks for the clarification Jacques. I had planned on building a BMP-1P that was used by the 101st MVD Battalion in Chechnya. The Echelon decal instructions show the turrets to all have this add-on armor. Since I started my project with the standard BMP-1 with an SP BMP-1P turret (that doesn't have this armor), I appear to be stuck. I'll try to find some pics of the actual vehicles to determine whether they actually had this type of turret.
In the meantime, put some pressure on Sergei!
With regard to the designation BMP-1D, I was always under the impression that this was a specialized variant field modified for use in Afghanistan by the USSR. It had the same add-on armor as the more common BMP-2D. Didn't think it applied to later, upgraded BMP's.

Sounds like SP Designs will be releasing this turret. No time frame provided, I'm guessing it will be a while.

Ok, I messed up a detail
BMP-1D is the Afghanistan version with the added side protection.
BMP-1's do have the anti-rad available, but it was not a common addition.
Yes, Sergej is going to do a BMP-1P turret with the anti-rad. It may be quicker than you think.
Glad the new website is working well. Still adding kits to it.

Not that common but it seems to be present on most Ukrainian -1's. Good news about SP. Hope to see it released soon.

Yes, there seem to be a lot more -1's with the anti-rad in Ukraine than anywhere. No one seems to know why...

If you get any info on the ETA of that new turret, please keep us informed. I've got plenty of work left on the hull of my BMP, can afford to wait for this one.

Order placed! Still can't believe he is selling these sets for $6.00. Decided to add a couple of his BMP-2 sets as well.

Received my order within a week, outstanding service and as with all the SP stuff, the quality is first rate. I also opted for the BMP-2 correction set and the turret.
The set also provides the troop hatches, troop doors and many other details for the hull. I've got all this stuff already, it's the turret I'm interested in so here are a few pics. Seems like they captured all the details. I also noted that they now provide a resin IR searchlight for the turret top, this wasn't included in previous sets.
Can't go wrong for under $10.00 US!

Will these sets also work for the DML kits?
I emailed and am waiting to hear back but thought someone here might know. I also asked if there was a plan to do a BREM 1 conversion set.
Cheers!

No good for the DML kit, as those BMPs are overscale.

Chirs,
I e-mailed you, but apparently it did not go through.
As stated, NO, these turrets for the Trumpeter kits will not fit the DML/Zvezda/Italeri/Esci kits as the scale differences are too great.
