Hello there

I think I'm done with this one. Few little niggles that were my fault not the kit's... all in all quite enjoyable. No real problems (aside form my own limitations)

The ridge from the masking tape is nowhere near as prominent in real life. Might try and fix it but probably just leave it and put it down to experience.

Cheers

Sean

Sean, That is the ugliest vehicle in this campaign and you did an excellent job of portraying the beast in all its majesty!

All current finishers have photos in the campaign gallery. The campaign has 7 more days (April 8 ) for a few to finish.

I think we covered the AFV Club line pretty well, from WW2 to modern, types (tanks, armored cars, soft skins, artillery, and our one submarine), and nationalities. Good job, everyone!

For those still finishing, hang in there!

Congrats to all those that finished by the original completion date. Since we received a grace period I did not stay up all night Thursday to finish my YPR-756. I lack just mounting the swim vane and antennae mounts with antennae and some light weathering.
The swim vane is connected to the vehicle by only two hinges, so I tried to secure to engine compartment hatch with glue. Thus the scars on the hatch. The location of the brush guard located near top of the of the vane was questionable. The was a raised line forming a rectangle the size of the brush guard mounting plate where you can see the "scar" just below current location of the brush guard. I could not get the brush guard to line up with the smoke launchers located just above the swim vane. Looking at photos I saw that the brush guard was mounted too low. Looking at the instructions more closely I saw that I should have ignored the raised lines. Luckily I was able to pop off the PE base plate and relocate. Just need to repaint park of the vane and I can then install it.

I had determined to use the kit supplied "rubber-band" tracks as I thought the lack of droop would be hidden by the bottom of the flotation cells mounted on the vehicle sides. I was wrong. The sides of the flotation cells do not cover as much of the suspension as the original swim skirts. What to do? I could try to insert wire pins to enforce the proper droop, but there was not enough room to get a pin vise into space to drill holes for the pins. I could not remove the tracks as I had to clamp the sprockets overnight to keep the too tight tracks from pulling out the sprockets. So, after checking what was visible with flotation cells in place, I came up with shims made from hollow square plastic "pipe" with a couple thin sheets of additional plastic to get right effect. I then painted the shims OD to camoflage the and installed the flotation cells:
Luckily my meds did there job and the model did not go for a short flight before I came up with a solution.

I am declaring my YPR-765 completed. I am also, sadly, withdrawing the Medium Recon Vehicle due to issues with painting and lack of time. My wife and I are departing for Massachusetts Thursday morning to attend our grandson's 1st birthday party and won't return until next Monday. Enough excuses, now onto the photos:

I weathered the underside just for the heck of it. I kept wear and tear to the minimum as this vehicles spent more time in the motorpool than in the field. Some silver pencil and aluminum paint for chips and scraps. I also used pastels to add some smoke on the engine and heater exhausts and some Tensacolor wash for fuel spill. The fuel comes fast out of military tankers! Finally, I added like sand colored pastels and removed most with a wide brush to represent more the dust that settles in crevices and seams and only a light overall dusting. The pastels revealed that I should have added another flat clear coat after touch-up painting when I added the flotations cells. Live and learn. I think it will make a good 6-footer.

I thought it was high time that AFV Club got some recognition. I wish I could have chosen a better kit myself, but I still got some good out of this. I intend to glue my first (drive sprocket teeth) photo-etch part before the campaign ends.

Well, if you ever feel AFV needs some more attention, I'm good for at least seven more runs, maybe a few more depending on what the future brings. I still need a few SdKfz 251/something or others to finish the set.

Well the campaign is over for me as I have accomplished my goal. I glued the photo-etch metal drive sprocket teeth onto the inner drive sprockets. Light was beginning to fail so the outer drive sprockets will wait for their teeth later. I had to use a magnifier to get the the alignment holes in the teeth onto the bumps on the wheels. I used a slightly thick CA glue to allow me some time in case of last second alignment disaster. This is my first time with photo-etch parts.

Now to rest and calm my nerves.

I love your jeep, K! The painting and detail are fantastic!

It looks like the sergeant is yelling at some private to get another coat of Armor-All on the spare tire pronto before the general arrives!

Pawel,
That is an awesome job, as always! Are the markings decals or stencils? I'm curious about the dark spot in the middle of all the 4s.

Thanks Mark for kinds words.
It's decals, it's great. I also wondered about those dark spots in the four, was so on decals. My theory is that the original vehicle was repaint, after delivery to africa from European camouflage. The original tactical numbers were left and painted only from the outside without paying attention to the interior of the figures.
