I don't have respect for companies that recasts kits,

So you don't buy any Academy kits either?

I have just heard from my contact at Meng and he wanted me to communicate that they are still moving forward with both the SCUD-B and Chieftain projects. Not only that but they are on schedule.

I can check with Brandon at Freetime to see what's up. Perhaps it was just a badly worded email.

You can all relax now.

were you able to speak to Brandon?
Cheers,
Jim

I just received this from Freetime, so I guess we can stop fretting, and wait

Hey there,

The USA importers told us Meng canceled it.... but, Jim got me in touch with Meng and apparently they are still on. We will re-list it once they let us know the information about it.

Thank you,
Brandon Lowe

Give the man a break, Pawel.
He is still keeping his mind about Trumpeter from kits released more than 15 years ago, bit that only narrows his own possibilities.

I do have a few Trumpeter kits and a few older Academy kits that I got back when they were one of the only ones doing IDF armor. Two Trumpeter kits, ships, were given to me by a friend and I bought a 1/16 Panzer IV a couple months back. Haven't bought an Academy for many many years. Trumpeter cleaned up their act but some of their kits are just lacking in detail and I'm willing to wait and pay for a good kit of an interesting subject.

depending on what the price point will be, you know that the dragon one could be spendy. You do get what you pay for though, and if it's new tool, and done proper, then I could be a buyer.

Trumpeter has some great kits, and some not so great kits...............that's every company as well.

Detail and accuracy-wise the Trumpeter and Meng Smerch kits are definitely not in the same league. One look at the deck under the launcher in the two kits will easily show that Trumpeter's accuracy is suspect. And there's a reason why Trumpeter includes some additional details for the Scud vehicle in their Scud Crew kit - these should have been in the original kit.
I'll happily wait for the Meng kit of the Scud, knowing that it should be a better model. The fact that they didn't rush it out to compete with Trumpeter is a good thing.

Yeah, I'm aware of the Meng Smerch being better detailed (I'd add the raised launcher tube detail to that FB comparison which is engraved on the Trumpeter kit), but my post was in the context of Meng Scud being canceled and someone preferring to buy the old Dragon kit.

So, compared to the old Dragon kit, Trumpeter and Meng are more or less in the same league meaning they can be compared to each other, while there's little point to do a comparison with the Dragon. Yes, the Meng kit will probably be more accurate, but it might also cost more when it comes out.

Which is probably when I bought it but it's one of the few of my stash that survived the fire so it has some "sentimental" value.

This is the e-mail I got from Freetime

Unfortunately the following product you signed up to be notified when back in stock is no longer available: 1/35 Meng Russian 9K72 Scud-B Mobile Tactical Missile System We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Meng has informed us that they have canceled production and no longer intend to release this model.

Today I received following info from Meng team:
Thanks for your concern on our SCUD-B project. This project is safe and sound

I just think that due to release of Trumpy SCUD they've postponed own project and when stocks in shops will be empty they will release their SCUD. At least I would do this.

Releasing big expensive model by two companies at the same time is quite risky. Especially when we take into consideration that Meng's model are quite expensive and a lot of people will select worse but cheaper model. Here in Poland Smerch from Trumpy is around 350-400PLN but one from MENG costs even more then 600PLN and it's hard to find it below 500PLN (average salary is 4101PLN Gross).
