I will feel so sad if the same business goes with the chieftain.

Not surprising, really. If there is a competing product in a tight market spending money you may not recoup is not a wise decision for any company.
If this keeps Meng profitable and able to bring other kits to market, I'm OK with it (not like they asked my permission or anything ).
We frequently bemoan it when several companies bring out one kit saying "why couldn't they spread the love around". this is what that looks like.

actually, I just bought the trumpeter scud kit and am about 75% done. It going together very well. Good fit, minimal ejector marks (for trumpeter), lots of detail, etc.
I can't speak to the technical accuracy, I haven't been able to find a decent reference.

Compare to the price and trumpeter phase 2 smerch. It hard to say who is better. At least the launcher accuracy is better on trumpeter side.

Must because Tru released too much Russian project and flooded too many old zvezda/DML/ICM/Skif stuff. I can understand that. Lol

Agreed, but since they declared their future release of the product, they are responsible for making an official announcement that they cancelled it (or unpromisingly postponed it, if that's the case). I'm pretty sure there are bunch of people out there who haven't heard this news and still have anticipation in their minds to see the Meng's Scud on market someday. It's taking advantage of their fan base.
Perhaps they will do so in few days?

Plenty of other 8x8 variants to use that Smerch chassis with!

Then don't...
There are a lot of kits from other manufacturers out there to choose from. Just do not build a Scud, that's it.

I have just heard from my contact at Meng and he wanted me to communicate that they are still moving forward with both the SCUD-B and Chieftain projects. Not only that but they are on schedule.
I can check with Brandon at Freetime to see what's up. Perhaps it was just a badly worded email.
You can all relax now.
Cheers,
Jim

Guess I'm gonna have to build my Dragon SCUD after all. But the Smerch is going on my Have To Have list. There are several Meng kits on that list and it seems it gets longer every week.

Sorry, but why not the Trumpeter kit? The Meng kit would probably be somewhat more detailed (judging from the Smerch kits), but they would both be in a similar league, unlike the old Dragon kit.

Detail and accuracy-wise the Trumpeter and Meng Smerch kits are definitely not in the same league. One look at the deck under the launcher in the two kits will easily show that Trumpeter's accuracy is suspect. And there's a reason why Trumpeter includes some additional details for the Scud vehicle in their Scud Crew kit - these should have been in the original kit.
I'll happily wait for the Meng kit of the Scud, knowing that it should be a better model. The fact that they didn't rush it out to compete with Trumpeter is a good thing.

Base on all the comments, I just bought the Meng Smerch for less than $100 not sure it's kosher to mention where here, so send me a message, and I'll tell you where.

Well, my problem here is that I want the best chassis I can get my hands on to build my semi-tractor. (I'll be tossing out the missile) but I also need the 4 man cab. If Meng has cancelled their Scud that leaves me buying the Trumpeter offering even though the Meng chassis may be the better detailed choice. (Of course I could buy the Meng Smerch AND the Trumpy Scud but I don't see that as happening anytime soon!)

I've built some real dogs from early Trumpeter kits. I don't have respect for companies that recasts kits, they even left the original makers name and logos on the sprues. Sure they've changed now but I'm not all that impressed. And yes they've got a lot of variety but my early experiences left me leery of them.
