Now that Tamiya's done this, I suppose Dragon will have to tool up for their version.

Don't hold your breath- DRAGON undoubtedly has more Tiger Is in the works!

I doubt it also. Dragon is busy cranking out Black Label panzers and jacking up prices for their 1990's kits. A better bet is Trumpeter/Hobby Boss or AFV Club updating its M10 kit.

Up-dating doesn't really cut it anymore. There were too many errors in their initial releases. Academy "up-dated" their original M10 with a few new parts, but it doesn't make a great deal of difference. Complete new-tooling, as Tamiya has done, is the way to go. I'm not a big Tamiya fan, but their model looks to be the best so far. The dedicated crew figures is the deciding point. BTW, did Trumpeter/Hobby Boss ever make an M10? Only ones I can think of is ancient Tamiya, AFV, and Academy - all of which had accuracy issues, mainly with turret shape.

I suppose all the turret seats will have to be glued in the up position so as to not interfere with placement of crew figures as none of them are seated.

How does the turret shape on this re tool compare with the real thing? (apologies if this has been answered already)

No, Trumpeter/HB never had an M10 kit - I was talking about a possible new kit from them.
As to the turret issues of Academy and AFV Club M10's, here's an old thread discussing of them:

Have to wait for the rivet counters and dimension police for a decision.

Looking at the sprue layout, there are a lot of mold inserts. This probably indicates other variants are coming. Even the tops of the VVSS are on a mold insert. That could mean another kit having raised trailing arms. Like a M10 late? Or an M36?

So is the transmission cover, so there could be a sharp nose casting in our future.

I wonder why Brett Green refers to an M4A3E8 Easy Eight in the 3rd paragraph of the "First Look" section of his review. Did he forget what he was reviewing?
