***Hey everyone! This is my first post! I joined today, because it looked like this was the best place to be in contact with tons of experienced modelers. ***

My girlfriend gave me a K-5 (DML) for Christmas, and I'm looking for any good resources on how to paint it. I've tried to find what the actual "Anzio Annie" looked like (Either of the 2 guns used at Anzio). I've been searching the web, and even bought the Squadron book on Railroad guns, and havn't found anything with really accurate info. I'd hate to make it inaccurate, and mess up an expensive model! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

welcome to the site,

you certainly picked the best place!

im not sure if they were both the same, but ive got a picture of one of the guns after it was captured by the british. it appears to be in an overall dark yellow scheme, i think it would make a change for someone to do one of the guns after capture!

cheers

Just watchout with your references. the pattern in the DML instructions match up with the Aberdeen K5. But, don't say that any pics will be OK. Robert the other gun on the Anzio K5s had a slightly different center body. Fuast was kind enough to post a pic of one gun at Anzio after the capture and it different from Leopold in the shape of the gun carriage. So I can only assume that is Robert the other K5 captured there at Anzio. Now if I can only fin pics to confirm the wood planks everyone is complaining about being missing in the DML kit!! HTH STUG

Thanks so much guys!

Is Aberdeen really accurate? I've even seen some pics (artists renditions) of one of the K-5s at Anzio being overall dark yellow with lots of red/brown stripes. It had alot of Fallshrim and HG troops walking/riding Stug IIIs...so I might make it up like that and just blame any inaccuracies on the artist. haha, I don't know. It's a cool picture though!

I think it was restored to a historicly accurate color scheme. I could be wrong.

i have the k -5 dragon kit aslo.
but i have not started it yet there are some mistakes in the build sheet,
i read this in the fine scale mazginebecause they guy built it.
watch out in step 3 the part labeled h42 is really part number h43 on the sprue
its also labled h 42 on the parts map also.
and the outborad ladder rungs should read e3 not e 5.
and the auxiliary power unit crane the build sheet have part number 60
pointing in the wrong direction.
i hope this helps u

Wow! That will help alot! I thought those stipid ladders were harder than they should have been. I kind of cut the parts, and fitted them how I thought a ladder should look.

Do you perhaps know if the troops manning it would really be artillery? Or some kind of special Reichsbahn personel? Everything I've seen leads me to believe Artillery. But, you guys seem to have much better and abundant resources than I do.

Hi Steve,
Here is a link to a thread on another site that was just posted last night, you might find it interesting. The person posting has done some research into just what colors and camo patterns were used on the K5's.

Hi Steve-o and welcome to the site. Why wait until the beast is done. Most here appreciate work in progress as much as finished work. Posting work in progress is also a great tool to get help and to get others input. The worst thing about showing a finished work is when things are pointed out that could easily be improved, it is too late.

Wow, that's a great idea! I'll just have to get a digital camera sooner then.
