. But to cheer, and laugh and make light of a potentially deadly and obviously serious incident, shows me at least, that I would not want to be putting my trust, or my life in his hands, or trust him with any of my valuable equipment, or want him anywhere where I needed the assurance that he would uphold the standards and spirit of excellence, and professionalism that define the Armed services of both our nations..

Too funny. If the guy laughing in the video was an NCO, he probably has deployed multiple times. If he's an NCO with the 173rd, he's probably deployed multiple times to some of the worst crap-holes in Afghanistan. Regardless, my guess is that he's a true professional, in every sense of the word.

I've spent time with Canadian grunts in the field and I can pretty much guarantee that those guys would have been laughing just as hard at the sight of those humvees falling to their doom.

First it was a conspiracy, now it's just a group of unprofessional, incompetent troops. Any other words of wisdom you want to share?

I deployed with Brits, Canadians, Aussies, just about every service branch from those nations. And I can tell you that while they were all professionals they all had the same twisted sense of humor all military folks do. Except Aussie tankers. Those guys were truly demented and knew how to have fun.

All professional soldiers have a warped sense of humor. They have to for the job that they do. I remember we joked and laughed about that Sheridan burning in and taking a Humvee with it for months. Laughing about it is better than standing there wondering if you're next.

One of my friends was fording a river when his humvee got caught in the current and was swept downstream. It took us a couple of hours to find him, his crew and the humvee hung on a sandbar very wet, cold but alive. His vehicle number was 23 so he became the captain of U23. Someone even painted it on his fender while his vehicle was in the motorhole for draining and repair. Every time he entered the office his platoon would jump to their feet and click their heels. He never lived it down.

That said, airdrop is a risky business--it's why we practice it. Stuff happens. Here's a compilation of other airdrop "fails". My favorite of all time is at the 1:15 min mark and again up close at 1:50.

Lot of heat, not a lot of Light? but LoL on the YouTube above...

I saw one on Larkhill Open Day many moons ago, a LAPE's extraction of a 105mm & a LWB LandRover that cartwheeled. The 'Oblong-y' LandRover was properly trapezoid after that.

Was anyone killed or injured as a direct (chewing out does not count) result of this? No.....therefore it's OK to laugh at it and it is funny in a funny sort of way

"Need a conex box? LAPES a deuce and a half. Need a bunker? LAPES a tank."
