Master Box: Let Slip the Dogs of WarPosted: Thursday, April 28, 2016 - 01:32 PM UTC
Master Box has released news of two new figure sets that should be of interest to our members here. One is set in WW2 and titled ‘Volkssturm, Germany 1944-1945’, the other is set very much in the present and titled ‘No Soldier left behind - MWD Down’.

Thank you Masterbox...finally a modern figure kit in plastic with crye precision type uniform on the market. Can't see the Ops core helmet (production image kneeling figure) on the figure painting guide on the rear though.....add the live resin ops core/ air frame helmets and these guys will look great.

Yet again, they come through with a diorama in a box.

MWD Down - superb subject. Many servicemen do all they can to bring their dogs home with them, or adopt wounded ones when they are 'retired'.

I am going to have to wait until someone can speak to or offer better pictures of the sprue.
Masterbox has a TERRIBLE track record for offering one thing in the box art and putting something different in the box.
It does appear that the more modern weapons and weapon accessories pictured are on the sprue, but the helmets are hard to tell.
I am also curious if the civilian male arms and the rifle loading arms are inter-changeable between the figures.
In picture 5 it almost looks like you could switch arms between the soldier and the civilian.
If they are inter-changeable then the three figures could be built as surrendering.
Disarmed Germans without gear are not the most common.

I can't figure out what the soldier with the rifle is doing with his right hand? That's definitely not the way that one loads an ammo clip into a 98K! Otherwise, it looks to be a very useful set.

--> I think he is just explaining how the rifle is working to the spectator

Masterbox is NOTORIOUS for this...figure poses, weapons, equipment..often do not match the contents of the kit.
Great subjects, well molded (usually in my experience) but what is INSIDE the box is not always what is on the OUTSIDE.
I have to remind myself to look at close up picture of the sprue BEFORE buying, so I don't get burned again.

Dammit... Could it be, "...and NEVER put your hand or fingers in here!!" perhaps?

Sprue shots for the MWD set. Looks like the SAW doesn't match the boxtop either. The provided one is the older version with skeletal buttstock. The rest looks pretty good. I actually prefer the dog not have a muzzle. It doesn't make sense for him to have one. One major deterrence w/the MWD is that they can and will attack (bite). If muzzled, they cannot bit. Why would you want a muzzle.

Gino, the dog handlers often muzzle their dog if they need medical treatment. I had an MWD get a couple really nasty lacs in on my last tour in the sandbox and that was the first thing his handler did so I could examine and treat him. Never pictured myself as a Corpsman treating a dog in downtown Fallujah however. I like the omitted muzzle though, gives you more options.

I guess the muzzle for medical treatment would make sense. Hadn't thought of that.
