Master Box has released news of two new figure sets that should be of interest to our members here. One is set in WW2 and titled ‘Volkssturm, Germany 1944-1945’, the other is set very much in the present and titled ‘No Soldier left behind - MWD Down’.
35172 “Volkssturm, Germany, 1944-1945” – the story of the kit represents dramatic events of the end of 1944, of the beginning of 1945. Germany was on the verge of defeat, the leadership of the country got involved all reserves for defence and organized units of Volkssturm that included civilians between the ages of 15 to 60 years, both men and women. In terms of acute shortage of trained soldiers these people that were trained in a hurry had to repulse the attack of allied armies.

The story of the kit is simple: two soldiers of the Wehrmacht are explaining to civilians, a man and a woman, the arrangement of weapons with that they will have to accept the battle, and an aged retired serviceman (veteran) is observing training. Special dramatic quality to the story can be added by that the figure of the veteran is released in two variants and it can be assembled in the situation when one arm of the old man was lost in past fights.

The kit consists of 5 figures. The figures are animated well, they interact with each other well and they can be used both for creation of the diorama on the basis of the offered story and separately, if the modeller chose own story during creation of the diorama.

35181 “No Soldier left behind - MWD Down” – thousands of dogs serve in modern U.S. Army as before, their task is to save lives of soldiers and these animals do fearlessly what they were instructed and they serve their friends-guides selflessly. Many of them get wounded, sustain injuries or perish while performing operation. The story of our kit represents the moment when a medic aids a wounded dog, and the rest of the members of the group cover them.

The kit consists of 4 figures of soldiers of the U.S. Army and one figure of dog. The figures are animated well, they interact with each other well. The peculiarity of the kit is that the guide of the dog, the wounded dog and the medic can make up rather independent and finished scene that allows the modeller both to create the diorama on the basis of the offered story and to use two figures of the patrols separately, in a new story.

I can't figure out what the soldier with the rifle is doing with his right hand? That's definitely not the way that one loads an ammo clip into a 98K! --> I think he is just explaining how the rifle is working to the spectator

Masterbox is NOTORIOUS for this...figure poses, weapons, equipment..often do not match the contents of the kit. Great subjects, well molded (usually in my experience) but what is INSIDE the box is not always what is on the OUTSIDE. I have to remind myself to look at close up picture of the sprue BEFORE buying, so I don't get burned again.

Dammit... Could it be, "...and NEVER put your hand or fingers in here!!" perhaps?

Sprue shots for the MWD set. Looks like the SAW doesn't match the boxtop either. The provided one is the older version with skeletal buttstock. The rest looks pretty good. I actually prefer the dog not have a muzzle. It doesn't make sense for him to have one. One major deterrence w/the MWD is that they can and will attack (bite). If muzzled, they cannot bit. Why would you want a muzzle.

Gino, the dog handlers often muzzle their dog if they need medical treatment. I had an MWD get a couple really nasty lacs in on my last tour in the sandbox and that was the first thing his handler did so I could examine and treat him. Never pictured myself as a Corpsman treating a dog in downtown Fallujah however. I like the omitted muzzle though, gives you more options.

I guess the muzzle for medical treatment would make sense. Hadn't thought of that.
