kit is excellent! older tamiya kit lack detail.

You're right, Dragon's kit is much much better than Tamiya, but in my opinion the best M60A2 on the market comes from AFV Club

I'm talking about the tank in this picture. The engine deck is undeniably M48 like.

Yes, during testing for the turret, some were mounted on obsolete M48A1 hulls.
