Great build Angel on the Ponton and trailer. Also thanks for showing me the proper contour shape for the K-Garet deck planking. I thought as much but your work confirmed it!

Thanks Mike!
And you're welcome

Although the available width in K-Geraet bridge was bigger than in B-Geraet bridge(3500 vs 3200 mm), still it is possible that both Geraete used the same size of cover planks(Belagbretter).

The cover planks used in Type B bridge had following dimensions in mm(L-W-H):3840-260-47.

Short explanation for the role of the 4 end cutouts in Type B Bridge planks:
Once the planks were laid, the cutouts provided enough space for the body of the tightening clamp:

Once tightened, the clamp pressed the fixing beam(running above the planks) to the longitudinal beams(running bellow the planks, mounted on the walls of the halfpontoon).

A clamp-being installed and tightened-can be seen at 07:16-07:19 in the video I posted earlier today.

The K-Gerat roadway structure appears to have had a very substantial (8 inch x 8 inch) lengthwise "curb" beam placed on each side of the roadway on top of the crossways wooden paving planks. Whether the C-clamps then retained just the curb beam or still acted upon the individual planks I cannot say.

Mike,

If there were commonalities in the construction of B and K type bridges, then the retaining C-clamp should act both on the "curb" beam and on the longitudinal beams, thus sandwiching the paving planks between them.

I know there is some sort of slot cut in each end of the curb beams and the vertical handrail support upright comes up through this slot.

On the larger K- bridge system the vertical support carries a rope "handrail" rather than a horizontal pipe as in the smaller bridge.

Jaw-dropping scratch-work Angel, the woodwork looks perfect. Hope you’ve checked that pontoon for leaks

(PS hi Mike thanks for your message way back maybe in this forum, yes Susie's turning cartwheels again)

Mike,

You might have these K-Gerät photos:

Don at Voronezh 1942

Germany 1939-1940:

I don't see any clamps...

BTW, there is a big collection of trophy German documents in Russia, that is scanned and available online:
http://www.germandocsinrussia.org/de/nodes/1-russisch-deutsches-projekt-zur-digitalisierung-deutscher-dokumente-in-den-archiven-der-russischen-foderation
I found some info on the B type there and will check again for K type related documents.

Hi ajovtshev,

Referring to your Pontonwagen (which really is an astonishing work); you wrote that apart from the resin tires it is 100% scratch build. Now, I would like to know, which tires have you used for this trailer project?

Thanks Peter!

To your question-I used PanzerArt's KHD 3000S Road wheels Commercial pattern(#35-352).
They are rather big and I had to compensate for their height in order to keep the overall height of the loading platform.

Actually-I should have used the Opel Blitz 2,5-3,2 tyres(Dnepromodel offers them), as they fit the sizes of Pf.10-12 tyres almost perfectly, but lacked enough time to wait for an order.

Next time I'll use Dnepromodel tyres for sure,

Thanks Angel - I too had the same question regarding the source of the tires and had wondered about the possible use of Blitz resin tires as well.

Thanks

Peter and Mike,

2 days ago I received 60+ pictures of a Pf.11 Pontonwagen, exhibited(!!!) in the Museum of Engineer Units in Svishtov,Bulgaria.

The tires of the trailer are Bulgarian, but the wheels are original.
The inscription of the tires(32x6-Д) reflects Bulgarian State Standard and corresponds to tire size 6,5x20:

I further checked the sizes for a 6,5x20 tire in the "Technisches Handbuch fuer Fahrzeugluftreifen-1939" and found that the width of a twin 6,5x20 wheel corresponds to the width given for the Pf.11 twin wheels in the Lone Sentry database:

Thus the right tire sizes for all Pf.10/11/12/13 trailers are:

Or in 35th scale-tire height of approx. 24 mm, single tire width of approx. 4,5 mm. while twin wheels width should be 10,5-10,6 mm.

All together now - "Angel is a rivet counter"....

Your research into your subjects is as awe inspiring as your modelling work.

I really have to get to Bulgaria and see all this equipment before someone decides to sell it...…

Many thanks for the additional K-Gerät photos!

You're welcome, Mike!

Peter,

I think this Pf.11 will never be sold- it is stored in an active military base and one needs permission from the CO to enter the ground.
I was also told, that the Pf- and all other vehicles/equipment stored and displayed there- is/are part of the inventory of the National Museum of Military History in Sofia.

If you decide to visit my country-let me know.
I'll organize some rivet-counting for you

Hi ajovtshev,

I just have read your explanations about the tires of the Pf11.

Thanks again for this helpful information.
