Thanks, Hisham!
If this kit actually sees the light of day, there will be MANY happy modellers of "modern" US vehicles, myself included. AFV CLUB makes some REALLY GOOD quality products- I don't need to elaborate. Would you know if AFV CLUB will be doing "straight" M113s by any chance..? Would be nice if they do!!!

Hi, Randall!
Agree- This one's DEFINITELY on my list of "wanna-buys"!!!
BTW- Love your quotes between the Officer and Sergeant regarding "idiot-proof". Sometimes the DESIGNERS and ENGINEERS are IDIOTS, too...
I worked, among other things, in the automotive sector, (Sales, Parts & Service Manager) and for a John Deere Dealer (Parts Manager, Sales and Service Writer at the same time, i.e. for Industrial, Construction, Forestry, Farm Machinery and Consumer Products) for over 35 years combined, and in the Pharmaceutical Industry for nearly 10 years, and you'd be surprised at how many bone-headed designs I've come across that were an absolute bear to work with and on!!!
Back on subject, if this new M113 is as good as their M60-series and their M5A1 kits, AFV CLUB will certainly have another winner among their great line of kits...

I don't have any info, but I can't imagine they would tool a new M113 and then just stop at a couple of variants.. this is the kind of vehicle that they can just keep milking for more kits

That's a smashing piece of box art!
I had a friend who owned a shop for years that stated such an illustration could sell a kit no matter what was inside.

It would be great if AFV did to the M113 what Asuka did for the Shermans. I hope they do the front lights and guards like the real ones.
The quote is borrowed from a book on WWII. The young LT getting life advice from a much older sargent. During a move the sargent told him to be sure that everyone got the word. As the sargent put it, "There's always one that don't get the word." So the LT was always worried, and made sure his men were informed. Later, in Normandy, he recalls moving into a new position after the Germans had pulled back the night before. Suddenly a young Geerman soldier popped out of a covered foxhole to stretch. Surprise! There's always one that don't get the word!

Looks great so far! I hope AFV Club will also realize the A1, A2 and A3 version as the picture shows an early M113.

It is clearly a welded fuel tank hull, but it can be early M113A1. Also the removable fuel tank can be included what would make it a modified early M113A1 track.

One thing that is wrong in the box art is suspension - it shows the A2 version geometry (the upper run of track goes upward from 4th road wheel to the idler, over the fifth wheel). I hope the kit will have correct M113/M113A1 suspension (track should rest on the fifth wheel and go practically horizontally to the idler).
The A2 had increased ground clearance and idler was mounted higher, what introduced about 3 inch difference between the level of road wheel top and idler wheel top. In M113/M113A1 the tops of idler and road wheels were at almost the same level.
We need to see the plastic. Hopefully it is just the box art artist mistake.

Hi Pawel
The bolted fuel tank inspection panel can even be found on A2's...

Many earlier M113s were rebuilt as A2s, so yes, it happens. But the kit is clearly Vietnam era track, so cannot be A2

Well you definitely noticed on the Tamiya, Academy, and the Italeri M113s that the idler sat too low, so crossing fingers that AFV got it right or as close to right as possible.

Of course, but my post was related to the M113 vs M113A1 question (to me "bolted panel + fuel drain channel" doesn't necessarily = M113 )

Do you honestly think that the artist knows anything about that? Outside of Ron Volstad how many box top artists are really into the often very subtle differences between different vehicles?
How do we know that the artist wasn't sketching an M113A2 when the client told him to change it to a Vietnam era vehicle? So he just traced on the ACAV shields and went from there?
One can never second guess a model based on box art. How many times was Tamiya box art beautiful with all the right details that the kit inside was sadly lacking?
Box contents may differ from pictures shown...

The idler position and ground clearance in those kits was correct for M113 and M113A1. And wrong for M113A2 and A3.
The exact idler posision depends on its setting (it is after all adjustable to set track tension) and in M113 and M113A1 it can sit very low sometimes:

Yes, those two features were associated with fixed welded fuel tank and both M113 and early M113A1 originally had such tanks. Later M113A1 didn't have these feautres, but A2s (and possibly A3) rebuilt from earlier hulls can have them again. So indeed those features alone tell nothing about the variant - only tell about when the original hull shell was manufactured.

And all I am saying is don't judge a book by its cover.
Cover art is to sell something, not a true representation of the contents. You're not that gullible.
