Hi Joe,
those reels are for cables that were used to connect the gun to the battery fire director to receive calculated altitude of the target, elevation, traverse and grenade time fusing for AA fire.
In operation these cables use to tangle around the gun so there were a limitation on the number of turns allowed in each direction.

The "Telemeter" unit offered by Bronco is the device these cables were linked to and up to six guns could be controlled by one Telemeter/Director.

For some idea how FLAK batteries would be arranged, look here:

http://www.missing-lynx.com/library/german/flak_dmourtizsen.html

BTW, the 8.8cm FLAKs 36, 37 and 41 used the SdAnh 202 trailers. The earlier 8.8cm FLAK 18 used the SdAnh 201 trailers (which only had two cable spools)

Hi Roy,
Thanks for the extra info....good reading.

I did notice in my original search that the 201 & 202 trailers
were quite different in both the 2 and 4 reels and also the
6 and 8 wheels set up.

Any suggestion on a good book that also explains the difference in the 88's?

Thanks again,
Cheers,
Joe

The Panzer Tracts book 'Dreaded threat' is the most authoritative one I have seen. It (as usual) debunks a few of the myths which pass for 'common knowledge' and also has scale drawings.

@Joe (Grauwolf) without seeming to be too self-serving, I had the same question as you did about the differences between the 8.8cm FLAKs. The result is this article.

Good stuff, Roy. Of course since it was written Bronco (?) has released a FlaK 41 although I don't know if you are able to edit the text.
