Started this old kit for a group build elsewhere. Adding Eduard PE and some extra fuel cans for a bit of variety

I'm going to follow this one-- because I love this prime mover and two trailer combination... When I was 10 years old in 1963, my Dad and Mom and I were visiting Jasper Alberta Canada. There was a shop on Main Street that carried Lesney's and Dinky Toys-- and my parents bought me the quad tractor and 25lb Dinky Toy, I think just to keep me from asking "are we there yet?" As a 10 year old I could not believe there was tractor/limber/gun combination that looked like this one does! in 1995 and a lifetime later, I was walking past a hobby shop window in Budigen Germany and saw the Tamiya kit on window display, and had to go in and buy it just for the nostalgia, even though I wasn't actively building models at that time (too busy as a Battalion Commander). When I retired in 2006, I learned Dragon was releasing a limber and 25lb gun, so I bought those too, eventually I will build those and the Tamiya tractor-- it really brings back memories for me. I think the 25lb gun just epitomizes the look of an artillery piece-- so I'll be following your build with interest!

Nice work-- keep going! Is the Eduard set for the gun also?

There is a separate set for the gun.....nhave that as well but that has a lot more small parts so not sure how much of it I will use

Thanks all..... More progress. Decided to add the cab floor to the chassis before painting (seen an article with the build done like that and makes sense)... So interior ready for painting so on to limber.... This is where the fiddly PE starts....

bit slow this week - no build progress but did get some of the interior painted. needs to be a little scuffed up of course

more progress... got some PE done under the rear wheel arch and statred on my crude stowage. I have found some great contemporary photos of Quads really loaded up so going to have some fun... front fender rack and then racks either side of the wheel on the roof - one side with fuel/water cans, the other with boxes & tarps... also going to have stowage on the front wheel arches - not sure what yet...

right, using contemporary photos I have come up with te below for the stowage rack on the roof. need to find more stowarge and do a large camo net. Also going to add various tools that you would expect would be needed.... still have a fair amount of Eduard PE to add (small catches and some larger pieces but wanted to stowage worked out first just in case that affected what was put where

I have been remiss in not posting an update on this. a bit further on - limber done, bit more work on the tractor and started the gun. Must say the PE for the gun is bordering too small for me but having a go at it....

I too have always admired this prime mover. Great build, admire your PE updates!

One of my first purchases back 40 + years ago when I got back in the hobby. Always thought this kit very cool/majestic. I may have to 'revisit' another build after your thread (now that good PE kits are available). Well done so far...well done indeed!

Yep-- it was a long time ago, I had the Dinky Toys quad tractor up until a few years ago, but the wheels had begun to deteriorate. I'd airbrushed it a sand color too. Lost the gun and limber somewhere along the way. But this build has stirred up my interest again. I have the Dragon gun and limber-- I wonder why no mainstream manufacturer has made a Quad tractor except for Tamiya?

I hate to say this at this point, but for the version without the muzzle brake, you should remove the counterweight just ahead of the breach. And, as it's moulded onto the barrel, it's a complete bugger to do that cleanly (ask me how I know).

It's simpler to add the counterweight back onto the muzzle, however that limits the timeframe for the markings and paint to generally Italy and not the desert or Sicily.

Still, the Cab 12 Ford quad does look amazing in a scheme of Light Mud and Black, so it does produce a nice looking model.

Of course, that's if you want to stick to a strict historical accuracy. If you simply want a desert gun using the kit, go ahead. Do what's fun. :-)

Oh rats. So that 25 pounder I built 20 years ago is inaccurate!

Good excuse for an upgrade perhaps? Dragon have a pretty good one if I recall and I think Bronco too. (I built the Bishop version.)

Good stuff so far ROBW, this quad was one of my first ever 1/35 builds back in the mid 1970s, scary stuff moving up from Airfix 1/76 scale as a youngster back then. I still have the model too.

did some painting - Mr Hobby "SAIL".. not sure its the worlds best... anyone got a good medium to thin Mr Hobby? Tamiya thinner perhaps?
