We take a look at this new tool 1/35 M40 155mm SPG from Tamiya. This kit includes photoetch and an 8 man crew.

The figures and extra rounds look good. I hope they offer the figures as a separate set. They look very useful. The M40 doesn't interest me as I already have built the AFV Club one and I think it looks better detailed than the Tamiya version.

Great Unboxing of the M40 Kit. If you need someone to build it I will volunteer to build it for you? What do I need to do? Yake a lot of Pictures as I put it together? Would you rather have it Video tape it or Stills? Just wondering? thanks Kevin B. The Radioman

Like Gino i've already built the AFV M-40 with a modified barrel.





Then built another and converted it to an M-43. The ammo storage had to be scratch built as well because it's nothing like the M-40.





I would like to build the Tamiya example just out of curiosity when I finish the Panda Marder I.

What do you think Darren?

Thanks for the interesting in the sample guys, but this one has already gone out the door to someone.

The AFV Club kit does look nice, but yeah it's still not Tamiya.

I feel the exact same way Hisham. I'm a sucker for a good dio in a box (can't wait for the new Miniart Tram with figures). Plus, with limited modeling time these days I've been gravitating toward simpler shake and bake kits à la Tamiya.

since the M40 has a lengthened hull like the M4A4 I wonder if you could use the lower hull to build a long hull M50 Isreali sherman using dragons M50 sherman and this kit and kit bashing

Nick Garver: The M40 had a WIDER hull, not a lengthened hull. Plus, the idea to sacrifice a US$80 kit just to get a lengthened M50 seems quite the waste. Do what the Israelis did instead.

Saw the unbuilt kit yesterday and it does look impressive. Little disappointed at the $93 dollar price tag which does not include the turned aluminum barrel and 10 brass rounds which will set you back another $27.

Wow, I gotta get out from under my rock sometime. I missed that this was even news, let alone an issued kit. Stoked! I've loved those SPGs for decades - I have (had) about a dozen MiniTank M40/43s and one from Bandai in 1/48. VERY interested in this one, although even moreso in an M12.

Now see if you had watched the video you would have heard it has a list price (on the box) of $60. I don't know who is trying to get $93 for it, but I would probably look elsewhere.

The price is 6400 JPY without tax, according to Tamiya's brochure of Dec 2016. Also the barrel also is 2000 JPY without tax.

The price here maybe 10-20% discount at the store

Not really. Shipping to the US is generally pretty cheap. The issue is if you buy it in a US Hobby Shop, the importer and distributor add their markups as well. The price in US Hobby shops is ridiculous. That is why I buy pretty much all my models from Asian suppliers on-line and only buy supplies (glue, paint, sheet plastic, etc.) from actual hobby shops.

Very interesting kit of the Korean war era, which is under-represented, and for what looks to be around $61 bucks I'll likely get this kit. I have the Tamiya Churchill Croc on deck and I could practice my OD paint modulation on both these kits. The only other Korean era model I have is the Tamiya Centurion in 1/25th. One of my favorite models of all time (dated and all).

I recently paid $109 for my Vosper MTB 74 and had to pay an additional $20 for the figures. So I always appreciate when figures are included in a kit. And 8 to boot with this one. Thanks for this good look Jim.
