I'll be using the camo masks for the painting from J s Work.
I hope they work.


Are you guys interested in this? I've been wanting to try out the masks.

I am starting the build with the sprockets. I like to make them movable this makes the track install easier.

First drill through the mount and inner sprocket with a 5/32nd. drill


(NOTE) LOOK TO THE END )F THIS BUILD THERE SHOULD BE A LINK TO ALL THE PICS.

Then insert a section of rod or tubing that fits.The length can be whatever you want.


Glue tubing to the inner sprocket as shown.

Now I'm working on the lower hull, I like to install the major hull members before the detail parts. It makes it less likely they will get broken off.

Depending on what you are planning to do with the interior I suggest running the new plastic "axle" all the way thru to the other sprocket. This forever removes the chance for any wiggle in the sprockets.

Very nice! I'm interested in this very much so because I have the Tamiya kit and I want to use that company's disk mask.

I'll be watching.

I next installed the fire wall to the upper hull it's easier this way.

Then just slide them together.

Nice work so far. I recently did the Tamiya kit with the Uschi disk came mask. It work awesome. I'm assuming these from J works are similar.

I don't know, I've never heard of that company.
This is why I am leaving the small parts off , to see if it is easier with these masks. This is my first try with them.

The only area that was even remotely difficult to get the mask on was the engine deck around the spare wheel holder. I built mine completely (except for wheels and tracks) before painting and had no real issues. The JP IV is a pretty simple shape.

Donald, Thanks for the tip about the drive sprocket. Such a simple but effective idea.

you are welcome, I did it this way to make it easier to install the track. Normally there's just a but joint there and you have to glue the sprocket in place. This way you can adjust it to fit the track and then glue it.

I've used those masks and they work quite nicely. Sometimes it helps to supplement the masks with silly putty.

I painted the interior, I'm not doing much detailing here as most of it can't be seen.


I assembled and painted the Gun next.


Installed the Gun with its bottom mount next.

Here's what it looks like from the top.


Installed the upper part of the mount and the mantlet.

What do you plan to install as "interior"? I'm building Tamiya's JpzIV, and thinking about what level of detailing would worth the efforts and is visible after assembly...

I wasn't planing anything for the interior as not much of it can be seen through the hatches.

The main reason for building this was to try out the mask set.

I didn't install all the small parts yet, here it is all painted green.


Don't forget to paint the backside of the upper rear plate.

Here the first set of masks is installed.

I then painted the yellow and when dry installed the second set.

Next painted the red-brown

When it was all dry I removed the masks.


The masks work pretty good , it's just that the sheet is laid out as one large cut out, and it's hard to get the pattern to go around corners and over edges.
They hold good and I didn't have any problems with the paint bleeding under the masks. I am using Tamiya paint for this build.
I'll be adding the small parts next and touching up.

Looking pretty sharp. Nice pattern. So it seems the masks were pretty easy to use.

They went on fairly easy, it was getting them to go around the corners that was a job, a lot of trimming and fitting there.

I think that you can understand why I left the small parts off until after the Camo. was painted.





It would have been a lot of fun (Not) masking around all of them.
Now for a lot of touch up.

I used the shorter and longer brass antennas from RB Models.

It's a lot easier, than trying to super glue the Pe. brass star antenna to the plastic one in the kit.

The tracks are assembled and test fitted, I left the Idlers loose so the track can be adjusted after finishing.




Now to paint and install them.

I like that you have painted the road wheels varied but solid colors. At the Patton Museum whenever I have seen a camo vehicle with two toned wheels running down the road at speed, the rotating, two toned wheels take on an animation and flash almost as much as an emergency warning light on a firetruck!
