Thank you Dennis!

I may just have to make those work.

I blew up the picture of the chevrons, it looks like something is inside of the bottom chevron. A 1, maybe a 4?

Hard to tell with the picture he took from a disposable camera, in the desert in 91. Lol

Kinda looks like a "4" to me... Not 100% sure, though...

The number inside the chevron denotes which line company the tank belonged to. As noted, the direction of the chevron denotes the platoon, the number is the company with 1, 2, 3, 4 corresponding to A, B, C, D companies (or if a mech infantry battalion, 5=E or the anti-tank company). Once you got used to the system, a quick glance would tell you which company and platoon the tank belonged to.

Just looking at the tanks in Gino's bottom two photos, the chevron pointing to the right (points rearward on the left side and forward on the right side) is 2nd platoon and the 1 and the 2 correspond with the A and B bumper numbers. We started using this system in Germany in 1989 when we got the M1A1s. It was painted in tan/sand on NATO 3 color tanks. When tanks were painted sand, the marking were in black.

Where did you order it from? I guess I will add one to the stash for a 4-64 Armor build one day.

Dustin,
I am going to do the build review of the RFM 1991 Abrams for Armorama when Jim send it to me. I am going to do a Abrams from 3rd ACR. Found some nice ones that are all decked out with camo netting and all green and some tan ones with the big numbers on the skirts.

But please Dustin, do me one favor, PLEASE, when you go to start loading it all up with gear, PLEASE use the right MRE boxes. The big square boxes you see on vehicles now are wrong for ODS. The boxes were thinner and more rectangular back then. I've seen few awesome looking models, but it takes away when you see inaccurate gear stowed on it.

Pete, care to share some of those pictures?

I have a couple of the MRE sheets. I'll look and see if they are the correct ones.

What pictures are you talking about Dustin, the ones that I am thinking of doing? Those are in the Concord 3rd ACR book I am going to use for reference.

Unfortunately all my disposable camera's with 24th ID stuff on it got destroyed or lost in moves.

I believe this is not the correct tank for the 3rd ACR Markings. 3rd ACR swapped its early M1A1s and Bradleys out for new M1A1 HA and M3A2 Bradleys just prior to the ground war. These tanks had the new T158 tracks, new armored housing for the main gun sight, and hinged smoke grenade launchers. So this version would not be appropriate unless you were going to do the tank prior to combat operations? I cannot find any photos of this marking option on the earlier tanks.

I believe the 1-37 markings are correct for this configuration but again cannot find any photos to prove this.

Does anyone have photos of 2nd ACR tanks. I believe this model would be appropriate for one but I am not sure.

1-37 Armor as equipped with M1A1 HAs when they went to Saudi. Their D Company was the VII Corps Canadian Army Trophy (CAT) representatives and as part of the preparation, was issued the HAs. 1-37 Armor ended up deploying with 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division as the 1st Brigade did not deploy due to units being in the middle of or recently completed New Equipment Fielding for M1A1 HA (2-37 AR) and M2A2 (1-6IN). The book, Armored Soldiers, has some coverage of their exploits, with a focus on D Company , the CAT company and their commander CPT Dana Pittard, who retired last year as a Major General.

The RFM M1A1 ODS will build up into a tank that was used by most other DESERT STORM units from Europe and the US.
