Well Aberdeen was never actually a "museum" pee say. It was and still is an active proving ground that just happened to have all of our old captured and trophy tanks at. I agree the way they were kept was in the most horrible way possible and I'm not really defending that past the point of the fact that up until the past few decades is wasn't the priority it has become today, .

However, Aberdeen in the last few years has had that entire collection broken up and shipped to two or three actual Army Museums across the country. So most of the collection that was there is either under cover, or in the process of eventually getting there.

However, the thing that has to really be taken into consideration when all you folks from Britain trash how our old pieces are kept is the huge difference in how they owned and funded. I don't know if Bovington is government funded or private, but I can tell you ours is all Government, so the money towards restoring them isn't going to be a giant priority to a politician. Personally I think it's a sad state of affairs that one of the best collections in the US was in private hands (Littlefield) but then again, our history itself isn't nearly as long spanning as yours or many other European cultures, so in general I get the feeling that war trophies aren't as big of a thing here. (Unless it flies....)

Personally, and probably not a popular opinion, but with the Elefant being such a rare and unique piece of history, I really don't think it should be loaned out across the globe like they are doing.

Indeed, they should leave it outside to rust and decay for 50 years

I don't know if any of you know Len Dyer from Benning or even Rob Cogan that helps out with restoration, but they're trying their best to get things in shape. Len has 2 guys and no money to restore the Aberdeen vehicles. Most are under cover if not in a shelter, and the Tiger I is being restored currently. The NACM (our tank museum) will open in 2020, and I'm hoping we're lending our Elefant to them to perhaps get funds to build the museum or as was stated just restore the Elefant more.

I also agree that if we're not going to restore these vehicles we should give them away or sell them. There are many museums or organizations in the US that could afford to restore one or two vehicles. I know that the German armor is less important to Benning than the Sherman collection.

We'll see what comes of all this. I'm going to be volunteering down at Benning to do anything I can once a year, But I feel like since our museum is still an active US military base, it's never going to be what it could be.
