I know these pics are of snowplow version here at Ft. Riley, but I've noticed that about half the HMMWV's around here have the fording snorkel (air intake) on them, but not the exhaust stack.

Anyone know why they'd have the snorkel installed? It'd be a bad idea to have it installed all the time just in case they needed to ford, because even a small bit of damage/small pin hole, would lead to bad results if they needed them to ford.
