I hope it lasts longer then the month the one I purchased lasted. Never buy another one again.

I use a palm sander with a few elastic bands crisscrossed along the base to secure the paint bottle. Works great albeit a bit louder I suppose than the table top unit.

I built one last Fall out of some bits I had laying around. It bolts to the leg of my workbench and I just chuck it in my cordless drill to run it. Happy to show some pics if anyone is interested.

That's unusual-- I've had mine going on for 20 years now with no problems, and I think a few others have said the same thing in this thread. I have seen one (when I worked in a LHS) that a customer returned because he placed too much weight on it, and burned out the motor. We should also differentiate in this post between a paint shaker and a paint stirrer, which are two different things-- a paint shaker shakes the paint without removing the lid, a paint stirrer you must remove the lid. Personally, I find the shaker to be less messy and more useful, but that's just me. I still occasionally stir paint, but I do it with a cut down aluminum knitting needle-- easy to wipe off with a single pass through a paper towel. If you go to a pro paint store, they never mix paint by stirring-- they always use a shaker. Stirring introduces air into the mixture, the "stirrer" needs to be cleaned, and it is not always efficient as it won't necessarily reach every corner of the paint jar. A paint shaker does a better job of mixing, IMHO, but again, it's a personal preference.

And $100? Plus having to modify it? I think I'll stick with my trusty $25 Robart.

Just a note - ebay does the same thing for a lot less money -£12 in UK it looks a bit gaudy as its from the nail art industry but works just fine.
