Hi guys

I was having a clearout from the store sometimes last year and came across a lot of stash, and after shifting through all the goodies, I have decided to re-start this great hobby.

The real inspiration to create this urban setting came after seeing the late Romain's (1stjaeger) Hue Tet 1968 and Tom's (Parrot) Old Dio, plus a few others....but my biggest influence came from Mark (Mecmodels)for the commercial signs and other products, as well as Bravo 6. So, here we go...

The building is constructed from Styrofoam and covered in plaster of paris. Basic painting using Vallejo Model Colour


Washed with MIG, and matt varnished


Weathered using MIG pigments



Currently working on accessories. More photos will be posted soon. Any comments or suggestions are welcomed

In your last post, try getting rid of the "BORDER="0">.file

The .jpg should be the last thing before the [/IMG] tag.

Good to hear Romain is an inspiration! (what a great guy he was!)

You are doing a very nice job makes me want to see more!
Curious what figures you will be using, I have an idea though

I'm very flattered something of mine has inspired someone.
I'm sure Romain would also be quite pleased.
I know the dio you refer to,but can't find it again on here.
Check out MBs new figures in news today."Somewhere in Saigon"may be useful to you.

Here's a feature on Romains diorama. I am uncertain if it is being finished or not. I know Romain worked together with Leo but not sure if he kept working on it or not...

Mario - thanks for editing the photos for me. I tried re-loading them as suggested by Gary but somehow they didn't work. Any chance you can share the info?.....thanks in advance

Mark - the figures will be a combination of plastic and resin. There will be one which happened to be my favourite...the monk from MecModels

James - I must say I'm a big fan. Your figure painting skills are brilliant. Wish I have the talent like yours

Tom - The MB set is brilliant. Will be perfect to be part of the dio....if the project is still ongoing, that is. Thanks

Hello Mojo!

I am glad you like my figures. I am sure that with practice yours can look similar. My painting methods are pretty simple compared to what I have read about in books and on some internet sites. If you'd like, I could explain what my methods are.

I might be able to work on figures well, and just started to include armor, but I have not attempted any buildings yet. That is something that I am uncertain how my efforts will look. For one of my upcoming dioramas of Tet and then Mini-Tet, I am going to have to include buildings (hint - Mark, I will be placing an order in a month or so once I figure out which buildings I am going to need). I hope my attempt at painting the buildings will turn out even half as well as yours are looking.

Can't wait to see the figures you have chosen for this diorama.

remember that with structures like these, your going to be close to highway one and the ocean. Building reminds me of Quang Nghai right on the main drag thru town. I would check the Coca Cola sign, as it may not be period correct. Still I really like that building! It just looks right for the coastal areas.

Once you got out of the Saigon area, cities and towns got much smaller. Many were off limits to Americans even though we passed thru them almost daily. (Quang Nghai was)

In I-Corp you could fit these buildings into Tam Key , Quang Nghai, Duc Pho maybe. Then your on the out skirts of DaNang. You got twenty five kilometers inland and they would be blown up or not there. Might see them on Highway 719 or the road to An Khe, and maybe even the road to Pleiku and out by An Loc.

I'll be watching your build as I like what I see already. I'd go deeper, but the mods would have a seizure!!

funny, I've been down that road at least a dozen times! I used to lift out of the south end of the east runway a lot. Don't remember that sign, but also been forever in time. The Coke label in 67 thru 69 was a series of red and white tringles. You also saw ESSO and Shell Oil signs a lot, but never saw gas stations! And don't forget Tiger Balm!

Note towns like Quang Nghai and Tam Key had street lights and side walks! Don't know if the lights worked, but they were there. They are similar to the ones in the WWII kits. Color wise I remember a lot of white and a light blue buildings.

Gary - thanks for the input into the build so far. Great to know someone who was there back then, to guide through the right path.

Mark - hope to see more of your products on the market. Will be keeping an eye on your website

As for me, here is the nearly completed building, just the final dusting/weathering

Outside and in.Where did you get the signs and furniture?
The slippers by the bed is just a stroke of detail ingenious.

Thanks for all the positive comments and encouragements guys.

Tom - the big signs are partly from MecModels, and the small ones are printed off the net. The furniture are all made from balsa wood, and painted and washed in various shades of brown. The cooler is made from styrene sheet.

Great job so far, Muhammad!

The M151 looks good. There is something about the radio, though, that seems a bit off. Is that the radio that comes with the kit? Before you decide on the "location" depicted in your diorama, find out where that particular MP unit was located. That will tie the history in with your diorama and will add to the authenticity.

The civilian car looks good as does the cart.

You sure are teasing us with this preview.

I am curious as to which figures and poses you will be using for your diorama.

The radio is indeed part of the kit. To be honest, I was too lazy to replace it with the correct one. Regarding the unit, I found this interesting article

As I have the Bravo 6 MP figures which display the same insignias as the jeep, I'll be using those. Also, there'll be a Buddhist monk from MecModels (as mentioned in my earlier post), but the rest..... I'm keeping them under my hat until the completion of the project
