The two Vietnamese girls are straight out of the movie "Full Metal Jacket." The one on the left is from the scene in front of the theater and the one on the right is from the scene where Jokers cameraman gets his camera stolen.

yes thats right; the girls look familiar ;-) No real mystery what the guys are discussing....I really hope Masterbox made the girls 'petite' enough for Vietnamese...I feel their (female)figures can be on the 'large side'.

Judging from the figure photos, the girls look like they could have been much more petite. They appear to be an average height of a Caucasian woman. They could actually be from 5' - 5'- 5". My wife is Cambodian and she's around 4'- 10".

I like all three figures kits. The dynamic poses of the attacking Apaches and the Tomahawk charge are well done. Yes, the Somewhere in Saigon kit was inspired by the movie Full Metal Jacket. Mark, if the GIs are hypothetically 5'10" tall, the Vietnamese in this kit would be about 5'5" or so. They are taller than your average Vietnamese, but I am going to be mixing them with some larger figures so the scaling will look correct in the diorama I am going to include them in. It is a nice figure set nonetheless and makes for a nice vignette.

Speaking of movies the Apaches, especially the running one, look like they're out of the movie 'Ulzana's Raid' from the seventies. It starred Burt Lancaster and Bruce Davidson. The running guy looks just like the actor who played Ulzana. Also be careful mixing up the Apaches with the other indian set like it suggests. The Tomahawk Attack warriors look more like plains indians to me.
Regards,Bob
p.s. I believe MB already make some U.S. cavalry figures that would work with these guys.

Masterbox sculpting has gotten....well...masterful. The sculpting on these sets, at first glance, looks as good as some resin kits. These sets are interesting and different from anything out there now. Where were these figure sets when I was a young modeler? Kudos to Masterbox for, AGAIN, thinking outside the box and providing us with some fantastic figures! I am definitely getting some of the Indian War sets.

Sort of. They have done a couple of US Civil War Union Cavalry sets. They could work as post Civil War US Cavalry out west, maybe change their hats to Stetsons.

i'm definitely interested by the 2 indians set, but as said Shermadude : do not mix those 2 boxes together as Apaches never fought alongside Sioux ...

Hello,

In their announcement Master Box mentioned a future-release kit that may also be used with these two Indian Wars kits. I did not write it up as only the kit number was shared as yet. Will provide an update as more information comes in.

Cheers,

Tat

In reference to the Apache figures I would respectfully submit to you that the Apache Scouts serving the U.S. Army wore the red headbands. It was so they could be distinguished from the hostile Apaches. On these figures their breech-clouts were blue but they were always white cloth. And the blue/dark grey pants were normally white also. The Winchesters are OK but they also used Springfield rifles and carbines as well as the Winchesters. I was a curator of a historic fort in Arizona for 33 years. I am glad these figures were done! If as some people have suggested they do some U.S. Cavalry I hope the company does some serious research. Based on the Apaches shown the U.S. Cavalry figures would probably be in the early to late 1880's.

Hope these are among the most successful Master Box releases so that the series will continue and include Woodland Indians from the French and Indian War period. On the other hand I am still waiting for Federal and Secessionist artillery and infantry from that little North/South dust-up so it could be a long wait. But, here's to hoping!!

For those of you who are wanting more of the Plains Indians series, etc, from Masterbox, I suggest you contact them and let them know what kind of kits you would like to see. If you have some expertise in the subject like David Faust does, you might offer some suggestions to them about uniforms and native dress. I am sure they would appreciate any input.

Cheers,
James

Unexpected but really cool just the same. The level of detail is really impressive. The "Boom Boom" girls are, well, you know...alluring.

The tomahawk charge go perfectly with the ACW figures as there were a few fights during the Civil War between US forces and Plains Indians. The ICM 1917 US infantry could be converted to 1880s US troops as the uniform silhouette is similar but it'd require a lot of work.

You'd really be left with resin and metal for more alternatives. The ACW is extremely well served in resin and white metal with all kinds of stuff available. The Indian wars much less so. There are even a few companies specializing in mix and match ACW uniforms figures to represent all the regimental variation.

Dragon made a nice start years ago with a 4 figure Federal Troops set for the AMC. It would be great to see more Infantry and then Arty.

Wow these are awesome. Im impressed by the detailas well , the horse's mane for example is usually a clump or so.
Great action poses w/ the Indian scenes, and ya gotta love the negotiation scene as well.
Now if MB could add the two street locals on the minibike who jack Jokers camera, and the bird-flipping scene all would be complete!
TAT thanks for this

The 8th PA cav set will work for the early Indian wars. Even for some time after as funds for federal troops was not high on Wash.D.C. list. They ended up using left over civil war equip for a long time. Though several problems arise like the lack of holstered revolvers and revolvers, (as sabre charges were a rare thing) and cap pouch. You would even need to fashion a tether line and a cartridge belt. All standard equipment for a cav trooper.
