I'm weathering now, waiting for the oil streaking to dry. In a couple of days I should be able to use some pastels to dust it up a bit.

SEE!!! It will be ready for next month's comp

Hi Everyone!
Time to close this chapter of model building and move to the next one. And, though I am finished, this puppy is NOT going to be entered in any competition.

Wait...I know you're saying: "a RED jack??" Currently I'm reading a book titled: Kampfgruppe Walther and Panzer Brigade 107: A Thorn in the Side of Operation Market Garden. In it are a couple of modern photos of Panzer parts liberated from destroyed Panther's by Dutch farmers. Lo and behold, there is a jack...and it's red! Not red primer. Not rotbrun. But red. Kind of like that orangey-red painted on Camaro's in the late seventies. So, I thought..."why not!"

Although it's faint in the photos, the streaking is more prevalent in person.

I made some mistakes with the oil streaking and didn't discover them until the paint had dried.

Finally the gun. I'm not really sure how to weather the inside of an AFV, yet. After some light chipping, I streaked the interior with oils, then added pigments. On the floor of the fighting compartment, I went heavy with a few different earthy shades to try to make it look dirty.

This was a learning project with a lot of experimentation and stuff used from weathering videos I've recent acquired. Near the end, I had the misfortune to reopen the cut used to remove the barrel warp. Fixing it left a mark that's way too easy to see. I think I may invest in metal barrels in the future if the in-box barrel is warped.

Thanks for looking!

Good job Gary. Definitely turned out nice, especially with what you were working with.

Gary,
Your Nashorn looks just right; your subtle weathering of the plain yellow paint is spot on.

So you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!

The Red Jack Brigade, sounds like some wannabe terrorist outfit from the 70's...

Very nice Job on that one Gary. You really have a great finish there

I really like the Nashorn kits. They let you do a build with an interior that won't be hidden when completed. Very nice work so far, thanks for sharing.

Yeah, If you want to save time, DON'T go with Masterclub tracks, drilling out the pin holes for each and every link killed me and the tiny pins for each link are a pain, great accuracy/detail, but a pain. Kaizen would be better, or just stick with the Magic Tracks that came with the kit. (Or I have the AFV Club rubber band tracks I can send you lol).

Me too Colin. Never again. Their T-64 set needed every link re-drilling and as for those useless resin pins which snap with the slightest bit of resistance or simply just fall out again, well, my tracks kept breaking whilst painting simply under their own weight whilst moving them about to spray. Never again and it is back to Friuls and wire pins for me.

Great work and skills on the Nashorn Gary and as others have said, if anyone is building this kit, you will have your work cut out with it already so don't add to the burden buying Masterclub tracks (IMHO).

Gary,
Thank you very much. I'm completely sold on Friuls. I don't imagine trying anything else outside of dire circumstances.
