There are also a lot of knock out holes on the roof of the troop compartment and on a couple hatches that need filled. Still this kit is a million times nicer than the Tamiya offering. (Edit: I thought the Academy kit was a copy of the Tamiya kit and didn't compare the AFV kit with it. Sorry)

I'm pretty sure that it is far, far better than the ancient Tamiya kit, but can you elaborate why you consider it a million times nicer than the Academy one?
From the shared pics, and my not-so-well-as-they-used-to-be eyes, I cannot find such improvements.
Thanks in advance

Have to agree. The Academy kit is by far still your best buy for the buck.Includes decent figures and plenty of accessories.Quoted TextThere are also a lot of knock out holes on the roof of the troop compartment and on a couple hatches that need filled. I'll retract that...I thought the Academy kit was a copy of the Tamiya kit.

AFV keep'em coming and Add the A2, A3, M981, M901, M577, M1068, M1059.
AFV Club used to make an Australian M-113 Medium Reconnaissance Vehicle based on the Academy kit with their Scorpion turret.
German variants would be nice.

Right, I was going to add that Academy kit also comes with almost full interior (engine, etc.). It still holds its ground pretty well in my opinion for accuracy, too.
As to decal options, nothing too impressive:
