I worked a bit on the Panhard, to get it closer to the finish line. The louvre grills are installed, but yet need to be adjusted and lined up. Their installation proved tricky for me at least and extremely time-consuming.

The left side is still not aligned perfectly and somehow the louvres are a bit low by about 1mm... Not sure. The right side needs some realignment fixes, but is mostly ok, I need to wash off all the dust and dirt, I might bathe it?!?. Also part 10 of the kits are 0.5mm short in my opinion, you can notice the mini gap on the top right louvre frame. (I got it all with 90 deg angles (along the sides), so wrong bending can't be the error.
At first I thought I did not like the interior, but after comparing pictures of WW2 and such, it is actually quite ok. Will see what a layer of paint is doing to it.

As time passed, the turret interior got some upgrades. It is left fairly plain by ICM and if you want to depict the turret rear doors open, some extra detail is almost needed. I have added some detail to the traverse gear. The left side needs some more detailing and the valve wheels to the right of the gear still need to be added.

The original French photo. I need to find a way to replicate the turret ring teeth....
*
For the doors I started by drilling out the vision and episcope slits.

Then I added the episcope to the left door and door handles, locks and gear. As I found the drawings and designs of the roof search light in the OKH report, I have added the internal fittings for it also.

The front also received an episcope and the roof Gundlach periscopes received an upgrade. There is no interior detail included and as such I added some crude and basic stuff, hinting at detail.

Some vehicle shots:

The door is actually locked in place at the 3rd (last possible slot of the machanism - see below)

A later APX3 turret version in France, with Gundlach periscopes on top and the episcope visible on the inside of the right rear door. Also the fighting compartment's door is painted on the inside like the outside on this Panhard, while there are many others with white colour:

Have a good day, feel free to spot errors.
/Stefan

Man, I have a couple extra Modelbau Shatton barrels I could have
hooked you up with one for this build!

IMO the louver grills don't look like they are worth the effort vs what the kit provides.

Well, you're definitely taking your car further than I took mine, but as I plan on getting this version eventually I'll steal more of your ideas for that one.

I think this is going to turn out really good.

Thanks Gary.
Scott, agree, but they will be pimped further. A PE pro will probably do them more justice, I guess I am maybe just not good enough for them.
Re Schatton, see PM.

Shell Bush, cheers mate. I might also get another one, it's a fun one!

Good evening,
it's been a while, but after some stuff with my hand, it took me all summer to get back and I needed some easier things to get going before tackling this guy.

The added interior parts received the first paint coats...

Added some more blood into the fighting compartment (goats blood from the butcher)

The engine room needs some more cleaning and paint, but all parts are in there now.

The front of the vehicle is also almost done.

The searchlight for the roof is under construction. This is, as discussed earlier, a special modification of the rail versions.

Have a good day, will try and finish it in the coming days, then tackling the 170 Mercedes.

Cheers,
/Stefan

Just stumbled over this one and even though I'm not particularly into the PANHARD too much I very much like your build here! It's always very nice and inspiring seeing a well organized and detailed build blog. So I very much enjoy following this one.

One more question: How did you replicate the turret ring teeth eventually? They look nice from what I can spot on one of your current pics...

Thanks there, glad you like it. Research and learning stuff is an important part of our hobby, imho.
I used .3mm styrene (maybe .4mm) not sure. I used a compass to scribe 2 1/4 circles, then it is up to geometry... from the centre of the circle, drawing a line ever 1mm (spacing at the perimeter)

Kind of like this:

Welcome back Stefan - great to see you & this fascinating project reactivated! An alternative DIY solution for turret-rings – find a straight-sided fluted/milled plastic bottle top (the flexible heavy-duty polythene type) slightly larger than the hull aperture. Slice off the top so you’re left with a tube & open it out by cutting along a groove so it becomes a panel. Using either strong/ultra-sharp scissors or by clamping the panel & using a steel ruler/scalpel, cut a 2mm wide strip and then bend its “toothed” side from outer-face to inner-face by clamping it round a tube with elastic bands for 24 hours – or a week if you have the time.

Provided the two ends butt perfectly together when fitting the strip round the inner edge of the hull aperture, the strip’s tendency to unbend and escape will be nullified – important because even cyano or Araldite doesn’t make a strong bond with polythene but it’s just enough to hold it in place. Pls excuse posting a rogue image into your blog Stefan – one of my older wrecks:

Good morning all,
got some work done on this great kit this weekend. I have just bought another one for the future.
I decided to add teeth all around the turret ring, so more were cut, with my inferior and slower way. The searchlight is now in place on the roof.

The interior is receiving some paint layers.

And this is almost all done now (except for the paint). I replaced one mud guard with some cupper sheet to add some damage to it. (This will be the side facing the viewer)

It's taking shape very nicely - I thought you'd mentioned the railway gauge somewhere but I can't see it right now - is it going to be on European or Russian?

Tim,
it will go on the Eberswalde Dio, as such it will be standard gauge, not Russian gauge.
It is ready to be painted now. Will replace the shovel and the pick and add the rods for the bed antenna as well as the cable for it and some more small kit parts before spraying paint on it tonight.

At last the Pz.Sp.Wg. is getting close to the finish line...

Residing on a "piece of rail tracks", just for the sake of it.

Together with some BR52 Dio parts, a base coat of RAL 7021 was sprayed after a light grey primer was used.

The Panhard parts, all but the antenna and tools are present here. The doors are held in place with pink plasticine.

Two close-ups of the added search light on top of the turret.

I will now lighten up the larger surfaces and add a black coat to the corners and edges before adding the final RAL 7021 layer.

Have a good day, more later, spray booth time after I place my grandpa's Mauser rifle on the wall behind my bench.

Good to see you out of hibernation Stef – I was wondering! Intriguing progress, looks great - and isn’t that a ghostly ICM Type 320 lurking in the corner? Strange coincidence as it’s going to be starring in my Anthropoid dio as a cabriolet - nobody’s ever built one on this site from what I could tell and suddenly there’s two at once. I’m about to start building, it looks like a straightforward kit apart from a couple of Instruction mis-numbers, any other tips?

Prost, out of hibernation, haha^^. To many issues in the last months... social life hibernation begins now, as I am back to my refurbished cave...

Sorry to dissapoint you Tim, but it's his tiny brother, the 1.7 litre disel and petrol engine MB 170 V... Your 320 (W 142) is powered by a 3.2 litre petrol engine and dwarves this one^^.
If it builds just as the smaller one, I would personally not go by the instructions. Read through them, then do your own step by step guide, some parts are better added later or you might brake some (or maybe I am just too bad and other people do not have these issues). Take careful measurements and time for the hood and bonnet, they were not that easy to match and align. All other parts are more than super easy to add, so by the time you reach the hood and bonnet, you might be fooled by the kit's past progress and not take enough fitting time^^. Enjoy the build!!
