Hey Guys
Spent a couple of hours at my friend Max (builds all these fancy USMC M1s) exchanging news and ideas regarding our hobby .... going over the Rye Field ABV and so on....
I showed him the following vid of USMC M1s being unloaded via crane from a ship
.... at 3.52min you see a excellent top view of the tank.
Enhancing the freeze frame Max notice that the blast panels are the same ones used on the M1A2 ... us always thinking the Marines have either the with or without the "sleeping mines" variant and this option being real news to us.
Maybe somebody knows a little more ? We also notice a small, some kind of "reflector" like device attached to the front hull and on side skirts both sides ?
Anyway ... we just need a kit of / or one with the new CWS and we both know which M1 we're gonna build next.

The blow-out panels are not service specific nor model specific. It really just depends on what the original tank had before it was rebuilt, and/or what panels were available at the time it was built/rebuilt.

True, but that type of panels was usually associated with M1A2 SEP tanks. That's the first time I see it on M1A1 - what of course does not mean that they were never used, just that other types were more common on A1.

Thankx for that observation .... you just solved another mystery ... we noticed yesterday that all Tan painted M1s on our references ( Max's "Prom-Queen" from the Iraq - campaign) featured a stain at the end of their barrel. Looks like it's from cleaning the soot off before stenciling the inspection - date on.
It also seems like the "sleeping-mines panels" are gradually being phased-out during rebuild/over-haul on all M1s .... only a couple of hundred built with no potential for future development anyway , so this makes sense.
Have to take a closer look from know on ....
Still want the new USMC CWS though .... pronto !

the reflectors are just that, reflectors. We had to add 3M reflective tape when we operated the tanks on the roads in Germany so cars could see us in low light visibility.

This is very different from the tape stuff we used in Germany and I not sure if it even is a reflector ?
Maybe some logistics / inventory / shipping /positioning - sensor/gadget ... NAVY thing ?
Anybody any clues ?

It was cheaper to order the starter right before it failed, instead of carrying stock or it or in other instances, replacing filters etc at set times instead of when they actually needed replacing.
It looks similar to the antennas they had on that program..but this was a job I was at about 4-5 years ago.

There is also one attached to the front hull .... but your right it could be some sort of "Tracking device" ... and the Amtracs and M88s also participating in EX SABER STRIKE 17 sport these thing as well.

My guess is an RF tag for tracking the location while on the ship like you track a package going UPS/FEDEX.
