Thanks Israel, I really enjoyed the pictures. I like the old style transporters, due to the various vehicles used at the time.

OK, what now? On one hand, I still have hundreds of IDF classics to upload, on the other, Meng’s latest announcement makes me itchy to throw a bunch of Merk IV pictures into the thread...

The name of the thread includes 'heavy metal' and I presume that the Merkava IV fits into the 'heavy metal' category so go right ahead, fill our screens with Merkava IV. The occasional classic doesn't hurt but there has been a lot of those already so I think we can survive for a short while. If the itch for classics gets too bad I can always check the older posts again

I don't think you can go wrong Israel, I'm really only interested in modeling tanks myself, but I am enjoying seeing ALL of the photos you post, even the softskins.

Merkava, it is. Bear with me, this is gonna be a looooong one...
Let's start with the first wooden model of the Merkava
1137.
1138.
Maj.Gen. Israel 'Talik' Tal, the father of the Merkava project
1139.
The second wooden model of the Merkava then...
1140.
1141.
...and now
1142.
1143.
1144.
1145.
Merkava mock-up on a lengthened Sho't chassis with Sho't turret
1146.
1147.
1148.
The more Merkava-like second Sho't based mock-up
1149.
1150.
1151.
1152.
1153.
OK. We want it to look like this:
1154.
Not quiet there yet. Magach turreted Merkava Frankie.

That's it! Stop right there! The first full, working Merkava prototype

During trials

Here we go: the very first production Merkava then...
1160.
1161.
...and now.
1162.
1163.
1164.
Another one in 1978...

The last three pictures seem to be showing a privately owned Merkava. Does anybody have any info about it? It’s definietly not in Israel...

Good morning,
First-time post to this thread. Good lookin' stuff!
So, is this "Light" or "Heavy" Metal?
http://idf-israel1948.blogspot.com/2009/07/hotckiss.htmlDefinitely not a Hotchkiss, but a British Mark 3 in Israeli service.
Have a great weekend!

I've been looking on Shapeways for a conversion (wheels, cab) for the Revellogram Mack, seems like I read about one some time in the recent past, can't seem to find it. Any clues?

Anyone know the story behind #1182? Is it some kind of pre production or early production model? Ive never seen those style roadwheels on a Merkava before

Looks like it could be an early model Merkava I with a mixture of pre and early model wheels.

I can’t quiet figure it out, but the number plate might indicate that this is the very first production Merkava (820001). Also note the odd location of the stretcher.

Wow, neat find, thanks for posting that and pointing out the Vickers Russ! I'v become very interested in the Vickers light tanks since Masterclub announced that they are planning to release the Universal Carrier tracks in metal.

a British Mark 3 in Israeli service.
I'm not sure...could be actually British vehicles stationed in Palestine during the late '30s.

Great Photos Israel, I really like the photos of the MK I's without the side skirts. I'm going to do one of those I think, when the time comes. It will be a nice addition to the collection, being able to view the suspension that way.
