I knew that it was only a matter of time before they would come out with it! I'm surprised that they haven't come out with an M48A0 yet!

Hummmmm ....
Where have they gotten the 105 barrel from?
New molds?
Molds they already have from other kits?
Who's betting on new molds? ;-)
I wonder what odds I could get from the local bookmaker ....
Yippeee! DS-tracks! Hurrah!
Yes, yes I know, some like them, some don't ....

I'm guessing the barrel is from their M60 kit. By throwing in the barrel sprue, and a few other parts, you would have what you need for the M48A5.

We had an M48A5 with the urdan copula when I was in AIT at Ft Knox for the National Guard guys. I crewed it some and I liked it. I liked the stearing wheel and it had good acceleration.

I'm just happy that they're finally offering this cool variant of an interesting tank.

Kind of simple for them to do this with the low profile cupola they tooled for the recent Israeli kits. It's the M48A3 mod. B with the '60 delta mg mounts and top loading air cleaners. Let's hope they just include generic black letters and numbers as their marking research for US armor has been really sloppy of late.
National Guard units with M48A5 didn't religiously adhere to the regulations for markings so codes would vary in size, layout and font. Guard tanks often had some interesting names and the deteriorating paint schemes would be a chipper paradise.
And now with this out I should try and finish my Academy one so I can do a fresh scheme for this one. With almost all the personal markings in black I could easily do up another custom decal sheet based on my first one.

Nice news, in special for Portuguese and Spanish model makers.

Let's see:
- gun barrel and mantlet will come from their M60 kit - which means that both have to be replaced with aftermarket,
- Urdan cupola will come from their recent Magach kit - again has to be replaced as it is quite inaccurate,
- tracks - again better replaced as they are DS ones...
And at this point I have no use for this kit whatsoever. I already have M48A3 Mod.B kit reserved to be changed to A5 with aftermarket mantlet and barrel, tracks and Urdan cupola...

Wouldn't it also need smoke grenade launchers and spare grenade boxes? I could be wrong, but didn't US forces in South Korea have their A5's set up that way?

The Korean ones would also need 50 caliber guns on the TC cupola. So I'm thinking this is more for US National Guard and export tanks.

What? The barrel on Dragon's M60 is seriously inaccurate.

I didn't say it would be accurate, just where the parts are likely coming from.

Their (Dragon's) M60-D machine guns should be interesting to see. I know that there are 3-D printed D models available now. If they are like the straight M-60s I purchased recently, then should be fine.

They have already done M60 D in one of their Helicopter crew sets from the 90's!

Remember when at least the conceptional art was accurate for a model? Look at the render and the too thin gun barrel and undersized searchlight are glaringly obvious. But under the wrong pieces there is a decent M48 so rework the cupola and replace the gun barrel you'll be good to go which is good deal less than what one has to do to the Academy kit. Though you can get the Academy kit for $20 these days.
