Here is some shots of WIP.

First of the DML Shilka OOTB. I didn't have any references, and there are some errors in the build, but I had started painting and didn't want to stop. I now need to tone done the chips with some more washes, add some rust streaks and then some pigments. A fun little project so far.

Next up is the DML BRDM-2, thrown together in two nights. I had put a basecoat on this one, but was not happy with it so the oven cleaner came out last night. Also will be finished as an Iraqi vehicle with two tone camo.

A link to my shots if the direct ones don't work:

A lot of fun so far with these two kits, with well over forty hours in (most of it spent painting chips). All for the whopping price of 25 bucks!

Thanks for looking,
Stuke

Great job! I also plan a BRDM-2, I already ordered the interior set for it from AEF Designs, but it's been 1 months since I ordered it and it hasn't come yet

The BRDM seems to be a popular one lately. Maybe it's the nice cheap price. :-)

I have a Concord publication on the Afghanistan War. Let me see if I can find anything of note.

Also, did some work on the Shilka last night, hope to post more progress shots by tonight.

Model Master Russian Armor Green. The enamel based paint. Figured it to be a good match, as the vehicle would very likely have been that color orginally.

Worked out alright, I just don't have a very steady hand.

Hey Stuke,
I think the Shilka looks just fine. Weathering and a little drybrushing will only make it look better. Iraqi equipment is not the best maintained equipment, so a fairly heavy amount of wear should be expected.
There is a BRDM 2 here at the museum. I think it is East German, but I can get som exterior shots for you if you need them.

Here's an update. Rust streaks added as well as some more washes here and there. The rust seems a little strong, but will get toned down with some dusting.

Almost there on this one.

Leogunner thanks for the offer on the pics, but I think I have enough on my hard-drive already...that is if one can have enough pics!

Stuke, that's a real nice Shilka! I love the paint job! :-) Did you use the salt method for the chips? (or did I miss that?).

The BRDM is nice as well and will keep an eye out for more progress pics. Not a bad kit to build IMHO, and you did a great job extending the trim vane linkage. That was quite fiddley on mine... I actually gave up and retracted the whole plate with linkage. Curious tho, why wire up some and not all of the hand rails?

Love 'em both.... keep up the great work!

I like the ZSU, I have all the Dragon BRDMs, haven't got any built yet, as I am in the process of making my own molds for the wheels and tires, and haven't got around to that yet.

Word or warning on the Dragon tires, and why I am doing my own resin ones, is that the Dragon tires split after awhile. I built the BTR-80 and thought I would be safe....but 6 months later and I think all but 2 tires are split on it....doesn't look all that pretty anymore!!!

Got to ask you a question on your M1 though.....whats with all the porcupine quills.....lol and the rack on the back with the chains. If I had to guess, I would say they are to detonate an incoming rpg round or something before it hits the tanks armor....but that is just a guess.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I appreciate it.

Yes, the front bit on the BRDM was fiddly, made even more so by my clumsy hands breaking two of the attachments in half. DOAH!! I had attached some of the kit handles and wasn't liking the way they looked. However, I never went back and re-wired all of them. I guess I got lazy.

I've heard the warning about the wheels. Some said that they split because the rims were too tight inside the wheel causing stress. Not sure if this is the real cause or not, if it is, I should be ok as the fit is rather loose. If not....well I will have pictures.

LOL...the M1 is for the TK2 Campaign here on Armorama. Not sure if you've heard of it, but it's basically a kinda post-apocolyptic storyline. The Abrams is the creation of a rag-tag group marauders. It was kinda fun to let loose with it. And yes, the chains are meant to be an anti-rpg device, but really I did it just cuz it looks kinda cool.

Update now on the BRDM.

Primed with Citadel black primer, then basecoat with a mixture of Tamiya white and desert yellow at a 60/40 ration. Broad green camo is Tamiya field grey. Next step is to add some lighter shades of the above to get some variation in the color.

Turret is not on all the way, therefore looks funny. And yes, I just noticed that the spotlight is on backwards. Perhaps the Iraqi's threw it in reverse in an attempt to break away from the onslaught of the Allied forces.

Hey StukeSowle
I just saw the pics, looks great, but I believe the tires should go the other way around, since they are the directional ones
