Thought I'd start a thread on this, painting almost done, doing one in ROK camo. Kit has Tamiya, Dragon and DEF parts.

That looks great Russ, I really like that Italeri kit, look at those separate handles on the tool boxes, how old is that kit? Some of the kits now are still molding on blobs for handles. Pretty sad when a kit that old has better details than some of the more modern kits.

Thanks John. I think the kit is from the '70s. All things considered, it was way ahead of its time. I pick them up now and then at shows just for parts as they're often priced at $10 or less. One of my Tamiya Pershings has the gun breach in the turret, and the tool box handles are on a Pershing or two in the case. The tool kit and some other things are rather crude, but overall it's a fine kit, aside from the tracks.

Yes, Italeri had a few real gems, and this is one of them. Always had great reviews on it.

Here's a couple of shots of the M47 with the white on, and the old Tamiya M41 I'm using as a test mule. I'll do the black on the M41, then clear, and try my wash of choice on it before I do the M47.

I do the same thing with my obsolete kits Russ, and the number of practice kits is growing all the time LOL!

Thanks DJ. The green is Krylon rattle can "camo" paint, the rest is brushed.
John, I think I'll be trying more oddball paint schemes on old kits now, this has been a very worthwhile exercise, and fun to boot. The M41 makes a fine "what-if?" in ROK colors.

Fantastic work on that Old Italeri M-47. Camouflage paint scheme is brilliant. All the added stowage on the tank adds realism to the model. KUTGW. Bill

Black is on the M41 now, going to shoot it with another quick shot of clear flat as soon as the wind dies down, as I added a dark green wash to just the green to darken it like the M47. Then it's time to see what a light tan wash does to the white.

Washes on both, upper surfaces done with Vallejo "wash for khaki and green vehicles", lower surfaces also hit with my own home-brewed alcohol and Tamiya desert yellow. The white is nicely toned down, now it's time for some selective pinwashes.

How did you create the mantlet canvas?

Star also has several other sheets of M-47 markings for various NATO nations as well as Balkan states.

What are you going to use for tracks ? The kit ones are not the best.

Stowage on M47 is DEF, from the ROK update kit, which also contains the mantlet cover. Mantlet cover and stowage on the M41 is two part putty.
Tracks will be Dragon DS, steel chevron. They're base coated, waiting on weathering. They come in the old Orange Box M46, but they're from a Sherman kit, with the correct guide horns. I spliced in about four extra links from an extra set, and used extra guide horns from the AFV Club rubber pad tracks.

Some progress: washes finished, detail painting almost done, still need to finish periscope lenses on TC cupola, add return rollers and then any little things I may have missed, like a radio antenna....

I'm stuck until I get to the local hobby shop for some more paint, I think.... my Tamiya blue (for the vision blocks in the TC cupola) is all dried up, but I do have a couple of antenna bases floating around somewhere.

Thanks John. I took a look at the kit antennae, and aside from one of them being broken, decided they were a little on the soft side, so I'll be scratching up a couple. After that, the vision blocks in the TC cupola need to be finished and that will be it for this one. Until I can get the the HS for some pant, I've started the next project, and it's moving along nicely already.
