Hi all
I was wondering, who makes the better Pershing kit? I've seen the Tamiya kit, which looks great, but what about the one from Hobbyboss?
I guess the old Dragon kit is out dated, or what?
Thanks in advance
Jacob

hobby boss is a clone to the tamiya kitso the parts are pretty much interchangeable with one exception
hobby boss gives you a complete engine and transmission
dragon's pershing is ok but may be hard to find

I would go with the Hobbyboss kit(s), they offer several variations on the vehicle and of course the detailed engine compartment as Nick mentions.
Nick, no disrespect intended, but I would personally not call it a direct Tamiya clone since the parts breakdown is quite different in the HB kit compared to the Tamiya one (more than just the engine deck area). Interchangeability of parts between the two manufacturers is not a bad thing, though, you never know when that could be handy :-)

Thanks guys, that really helped me out.
Sven: Maybe you have the Hobby Boss kit in your stash, which needs thinning

I don't know if this matters to you but the Tamiya M26 has an operable suspension. When I built a Super Pershing many years ago, having the ability to impart a nose heavy appearance was a definite plus about the Tamiya kit.

Just finished the HobbyBoss Pershing and there are a couple of things to know. The kit goes together very well and does come with a complete engine compartment (including two PE screens). The big problem with the kit is that the vinyl tracks are one link too short. The way that I got around that was to not completely overlap the tab with the holes, on one end of the track, with the pins on the other end of the track. this does leave a gap of one link but I hid it up under the front skirt just behind the idler. It is completely invisible, especially if the tank is mounted to a base. The .50 cal. MG could stand to be replaced, or improved with a new barrel. The kit doesn't give you the tow cable or the brackets that hold it on the rear panel. The kit does have all of the torsion bars for the suspension. If you're careful during assembly, you can have a semi-workable, or poseable suspension. The shock absorbers are two piece, but have to be glued into position. If you figured a way to make them movable, you'd have a working suspension. That said, despite the bugaboos, I enjoyed building the kit and am quite happy with how it turned out. Hope this helps. Al

Do you intend to build a WWII Pershing or a Korean War one? The Tamiya kit is correct for the Korean War.
