Interesting order of battle for an SS Panzer Recon Battalion, late war.

Extract from the book ‘Twilight of the Gods: A Swedish Waffen-SS Volunteer's Experiences with the 11th SS-Panzergrenadier Division 'Nordland', Eastern Front 1944-45’. A good read…

1st Company:
1st Platoon: 6 eight-wheeled heavy armored cars, 4 with 2cm gun and MG 42 each, 2 with 80-watt radio sets.
2nd Platoon: 6 four-wheeled armored cars, 4 with 2cm gun and MG 42 each, 2 with 80-watt radio sets.
3rd and 4th Platoons: same as 2nd

2nd Company:
1st Platoon: 4 SdKfz 250/9 turreted half-tracks with, 2cm gun and MG 42 each, 2 with radio APCs
2nd, 3rd, 4th Platoons same as 1st

3nd and 4th Companies:
3 light platoons of 3 sections, equipped principally with SdKfz 250/1 half-tracks. The 4th (Heavy) Platoon contained SdKfz 250/7 half-tracks armed with 8CM mortars.

5th Company (heavy):
1st Platoon: 4 SdKfz 251/1 half-tracks towing 7.5cm PAK
2st Platoon: 2 SdKfz 251/1 half-tracks towing 7.5cm Infantry guns
3st Platoon: 3 engineer sections equipped with SdKfz 251/7 half-tracks including flamethrowers, bridge-laying equipment and inflatable boats.
4st Platoon: 6 SdKfz 251/9 half-tracks armed with 7.5mm PAK

You’ll have to fill in the blanks as to exactly which armored car models, why the distinction over radios and if a ‘section’ equates to a team with a single vehicle.

Enjoy

Interesting post Ralph and thank you for this information!
The stipulation of the 80 watt radio equipment suggests that the two 8 wheel cars were Sdkfz 263, with the fixed superstructure and only a machine gun for armament. This was more powerful wireless equipment than the usual fitment so there wasn't room for the 2cm gun. There was no specific radio car in the Sdkfz 234 series, so these are almost certainly the older design. Likewise the 4 wheelers are likely Sdkfz 261 for the same reason.
The Sdkfz 250/1 halftracks had a crew of 5, so probably two per section.
I think we can safely say this was an "idealised" order of battle, they certainly wouldn't stay up to establishment for very long! In other units, missing half tracks were frequently replaced by Scwimmwagens (this was certainly the case with SS LAH in Normandy and the Ardennes.
