Well at least it's not another Tiger. The more the merrier and another few steps closer to the Bergepanther.

At least this one is an Ausf D.... well from what we can see here anyway. We haven't had a new one of those recently - no wait Tamiya did didn't they
Be interesting to see if they do their homework - number of wheel rim bolts, fan intake housing shapes, etc... and whether '2 in 1' is more than the cupola.

We have a ton of Kursk Panther D, which if the cupola option and turret side are to believed, this is not. So it is different from the Tamiya kit which was a let down for me considering ICM , Dragon and Zvezda had all done that precise variant. What about all the other D and early A variations as opposed to wrecks from Kursk?

The other people in this thread, who posted comments that are actually interesting. They care.
I hope that answers your question.

Very interesting. Actually we have not seen a completely new Panther for some time. I certainly hope like the above posters, that this is a true 2 in 1 kit as a cupola change is just the start.

Hobby Boss did that Flak-Bergepanther a while ago. I'm surprised it took them this long to follow up with a regular Panther.

Well if their T-26 and Vickers medium are any indication they do pay attention to little differences. But their Toldi on the other hand

I may be wrong (and frequently am) but isn't this the first plastic kit of the Panther with the initial front fender style ?

To DaveB and JR, you know me from ML, Cliff. Just wanted to say hello and that I am happy to see any model these days! From the looks of what I've seen of what Takom is offering I do hope this Hobby Boss kit is at least equal in detail. Old guys like me who still think like an 18 year old are quite happy to see the overall improvement in kit detail and often find that an error that is fixable is part of the fun!

ICM kit had it complete with separate tiny wingnut pieces to add.

Interesting, is this the beginning of a whole family of Panthers to come? Maybe we get lucky and get a Bergepanther too!

ICM did a turretless Panther Ausf. D configured as one of the recovery tanks built by Henschel just before Kursk. The turret opening had a wooden deck over it, but no recovery winch was installed.
What everybody wants is the fully equipped recovery version, with the winch, ground anchor and the open driver's compartment. The mechanical bits would require a significant amount of expensive tooling, and so far, only Italeri has attempted one. Theirs, apart from being simplified, had a too-short upper hull and numerous detail problems.
This Hobby Boss graphic seems to indicate that they think an early Ausf. A was just an Ausf. D with a new cupola. Actually, there were numerous exterior differences, like the shape of the armor interlocks on the hull and turret, and the contours of the gun trunnion housing just behind the mantlet

Jerry,
I'd wait and see. I see interesting detail and maybe a start for a Kursk Panther, but I want to see what they did with the opposite side. The Early Kursk Panthers had some stowage boxes on that side, that nobody had done yet in plastic. Still find this kit very interesting.

No, ICM Bergepanther is post-Kursk. The first 12 delivered for the battle were based on the initial Ausf. D Panther and had only 12 bolts on the road wheels (which ICM has not). Plus they were not equipped with the crane neither the front MG supports.
Part of the Bergepanther production was of this simplified type, it was not only a temporary solution for the first batch.
And yes, I also hope one of the multiple Panther kits announced will eventually evolve into a Bergepanther

I'm hoping that this will spin-off into a really decent Bergepanther some time soon!

I'm on this thread and I don't care for yet another (read: Boring) Panther. Overkill is an understatement, but hey, add another one to your collection.
