Hello Jerry, and model building friends,

Thanks for the positive words!

As you can see by the date on this, it's been a while since I did any dio work. But, I'm getting in the mood again. Regarding these big dios - they are fun to build, eat all sorts of time, are challenging and fun, and, with some luck, can result in a nice build. They are also simply big, and take up a lot of space. I've kept building, but have been focused on cars. At this point, I'd like to finish a car or two, and get back to dios.

Now though, I'm the "proud owner" of, well, lots of built models - some, err, might even say "junk!" and need to get rid of some. They just take up too much room!

There's a photographer, Lori Nix, who builds and photos some outrageous dios - I mean they are something. I saw a video she did about them, and more importantly what she does with them when she's done - which is simply to tear them down and throw them away. She's a photographer, not a model builder per se (though if you see her work, she builds one heck of a model) and her goal is to get photos.

I realized I enjoy building these, but when they're done, that's it - they're done. I need to decide which to keep, dios and models, and which to toss. My place looks like the island of lost models! I also have a handful of old model rr engines etc that are collecting dust - what a mess! my work space, is a cluttered mess!

SO - I plan to tear some of the dios apart and toss them along with a few cars. Mind you, they are nice, but...see above - what a mess!

Once all of this is sorted, I'll finally finish the Bladerunner dio and start something new!

OK, I feel better! Maybe committing to cleaning house via this post, will be enough to get me off of my butt and get this moving!

Cheers, and happy model building!

Very interesting intersection of events !
First of all, nice to see you back brother !
Just 2 days ago I broke down some old Ardennes dios and binned them. Saved a few items for later use or nostalgia. I do this periodically for much the same reason you do !

i don’t know why i just discovered this thread....
in my opinion this should be reported to the moderator of the forum, as you forgot the first rule of the forum: always put a big warning in your pics to tell it is a model and not the real thing, if not people could get confused as i did....

great build sir, hat off!

ciao

Hi Jerry and Edo-

Yes, the fun of putting lots of time into a project, and then, deciding what to do with it when you're done. This morning I tried to do some dismantling, saving parts here and there.

This was essentially a fail. Tracks from tracked vehicles stay on the mat, and not the vehicle. Tires and wheels from trucks/HMMWVs flying - figures...weapons and limbs snapping off or breaking. I think the reality is to just toss them. It was not cool to snap off MATV and Buffalo tires/wheels....ugh -along with trying not to destroy bar armor and RPG nets. It turns out I did a pretty good job of attaching the parts to the base.

It seems at this point, having fun building and discussing them here, and some photos is what I'll be left with. Otherwise, the junkatorium that is my work space will stay just that. Maybe later today, I'll continue with the task of tearing down and throwing away.

Adding to the importance of this process and a real decision, is my work space was originally intended and used for real work - that is, a big drawing board, place for a laptop, easy access to power, and room for layout, reports, and plans. The space simply won't suffice as it sits today, and yes, I need to start working there again. So, whether I like it or not, it's time to tear this stuff down and rebuild a work space.

Ok - happy model building.

Cheers
Nick

Hey Nick,
Surprised I never saw this earlier. Musta been the title "Up North" which gave the impression of Alaska or somethng...lol. No wars there in quite awhile.

Having said that....your craftsmanship and eye for realism in detail. Just wow. Was doing a T-62M with ERA and kinda lost steam after doing the external plumbing. Then I saw this. Well I mean...awesome stuff! Cannot wait for your next update. Has inspired me to dust off the old shelf queen and have at it again!

Regards,
Johannan
