Hey Gents

On Meng M1 kit it can be assembled for the DWFK and i am going to be making it so you can see down the openings. I would have added an image but my head is blown trying to upload a picture. Anyways theres a cable attached to one of the tube ports. The cable runs to the rear but in the picture you dont see were the othere end of the cable is attached. Does anyone know were that cable goes. Thanks

My apologies, I do not mean to hijack your thread but I also have a question on the DWFK. Are the intake left open after coming ashore or are the closed off?

Interesting subject. Photos would please help as I do not have a clue where you are on the vehicle?

I was trying to get some pics from a Tech Manual but struck out after a few Google searches.

It’s clear there are some control cables that go into the snorkel. I’m not sure where they terminate though.

Ah ha . . . my picture lives on in the cyber world! Well being Mike, that is not a cable in the picture. Its rubber tubing that runs from the final drive vents in the hull to the air intake in order to vent the final drives while surfing. The line you see in the photo Tees off on the engine deck to go to the final drives. The normal vents are replaced with replacements from the DWFK(Deep Water Fording Kit) that allow the rubber line to be attached. Once a Fording operation was complete the normal operation vents would be installed. They are normally left in place on MEU hogs that are embarked aboard Amphib ships and conduct Fording ops while deployed.

Through dedicated holes in the oil air cooler doors on the engine armor deck.

You will notice these holes are not present on all the super awesome kits available.

No worries Sean, glad to be of service. For Slayer, or anyone else, if you are building the kit in the Fording mode there are four small cables that go from a snap link hooked to the Bustle Rack to three quick disconnect clamps, two at the air intake stacks and one at the exhaust stack. The fourth goes to a magnetic plate that covers the NBC Overpressure system outlet on the left sponson. Upon exiting the water the turret is traversed and the cables pull the QD clamps allowing the three stacks to drop while pulling the plate from the sponson NBC outlet. The parts for the DWFK are difficult to replace and dropping the stacks in Training, and most likely damaging them is not normal SOP.
