Of course, no one said they are exclusive to military containers. It is just that civilian containers can have them or not (usually not), while US military ones are supposed to always have them.

If one can't make a choice between Italeri and Trumpeter offerings, both Accurate Armour and Miniman Factory have released 20-foot containers :
Miniman Factory :
Accurate Armour :
AA have also released a ISO 10-foot Container
And I guess most of these could benefit from Hauler PE set HLU35072 :

If you want to broaden your choice, you can even found some 1:35 plastic container-shaped pen holders online (Dimensions : 17.31 x 6.97 x 7.40cm ) :
Just fill up some unnecessary holes...
They're even cheaper if you order 500 of them

got a url to order them?
The url is pasted all over the photo, if one examines it closely with the Mk I iBall.
http://www.chamfoo.com/
http://www.chamfoo.com/plus/list.php?tid=5 the page with english lingo.
They have a few standard logos (the big ones I presume)
They have also got usb-powerbanks shaped like 40 ft containers
Another contact path:
http://www.tradekey.com/product-free/1-35-Hyumdai-Pen-Container-namecard-Holder-8727706.html
They have a few standard logos (the big ones I presume).
also leads to Chamfoo after a while, unsure about the cost,
at minimum order (100 pieces) the cost would be 6 per piece but couldn't see of that was 6 US$, Pounds, Euro, Yen or Yuan but I am certain that it wasn't Swedish Kronor (SEK).

Kurt, thank you for all the GREAT information.
Question: Any chance you have come across specs for the size and placement of the four forklift pockets on a mil spec container?
I found the size and spacing but not the location.

Could this give any clues:
http://www.ramims.com/uploadimages/digrams/iso20.jpg ?
Maybe it would be safe to assume that they are centered around half the length of the container ...

My guess is that they are centered, as Robin said.

True, in general terms ...
This specific type of shelter happens to be based on ISO container specifications
http://www.ramims.com/index.aspx?id=4168
Using the same measurements ensures compatibility with existing handling systems. Could be an important point when trying to convince customers to buy them
Their sales pitch:
"Ramim's ISO20 basic Shelter is 8 feet High x 8 feet Wide x 20 feet Long. Our ISO shelter range is also available in 10ft, 20ft, 30ft or 40ft Lengths."
Meets specifications:
"ISO 1496/1, ANSI MH5.1,5.1.1,5.4 (MIL-M-81957[AS],
MIL-S-29410[MC], ASTME-1976)"
"Standard features: Forklift pockets"
They also manufacture other types of shelters ...
/ Robin
It would of course be possible to tweak the measurements to make them an inch or two longer and wider just to make sure that nothing fits anywhere

In fact, some of the dimensions and tolerances listed on that drawing do NOT meet the ISO limits . . . The seem to have a mixed inch-metric system wherein they use hard conversions in some places and soft conversions in others, and this has led to some errors. They are small, but non-compliant, and are exactly the type of deviations that would cause me to reject the design if it came across my desk at work.
The difference with shelters I was referring to relates to the fork-lift pockets. Because shelters use different materials they have slightly different structures, and the pocket construction is different. The arrangement of structural members can cause the pockets to be in slightly different places, too.
