This is the M60A1 AFV club kit. the assembly was pretty straight forward.

First some photos:






IDF changes/variations are:

0.30 cal machine gun on the cupola.
Did not use part B4 (bildge water ejector?)
Used all four parts D26 on each side of the suspension (lifting eyes).
The infantry phone goes on the fender not above it on a mount.
Did not use photoetch parts GA12 (extra triangular brackets for the rear stowage bins).

Comments and suggestions are more than welcome.














Still have to make up my mind on the stowage...

Nice work! What did you use for the .30 cal mount?

Maybe Legend's new Magach 3 stowage would offer some things that can be used?

Nice work Nikos! I must say the texture AFV club molded on the turret doesn't really look right to me, it will be interesting to see how it looks under some paint.

I lightly sanded mine down and it looks fine. The hardest part is getting rid of the texture on the engine deck

I used a mount from the Academy machine gun set. I inverted it and drilled a hole at the bottom so I can place the pivot mount.

I have already used the water canister from that set but nothing else except a couple of pieces can be used. The spare tracks in the set do not fit the M60A1 turret so well.

I am planning to tone the texture down a little. since I always prime my models and use several layers of paint and varnishes I think it will look just about right when I am finished.

Thank you. the metal barrel is indeed included in the kit.

I removed the handles from the air cleaners so that they look like the later ones, since I do not have any photo showing a vehicle with the earlier style air cleaners.

Black primer and then some rough basic color, Vallejo 73.614 IDF sand Grey 61-73










P.S. I might sand down the texture on the turret after all, it looks really weird...

Yea, I was afraid that might be the case, sanding and maybe a little MR. Surfacer 500 should do the trick though Nikos.

Were you able to find many references to IDF M60's using the searchlight?

I want to do mine IDF livery but every pic I have found is sans searchlight and I want mine attached.

The last one was destroyed in the Yom kippur War. But one can clearly see the searchlight cable and the remains of the searchlight, that's why I posted it.

After the Yom Kippur War the 0.30 cal. was removed from the cupola and a 0.50 cal. was installed on the mantlet.

One detail missing from the AFV Club kit is the searchlight stowage support at the back of the turret. I used the phototetched parts from the Eduard set for the Italeri/Esci M60A1 kit.

Details have been painted and sparyed a gloss coar with Modelmaster Acrylic gloss varnish.

After decals I gave the model a dark brown filter-wash. Satin varnish and added most of the stowage, gave them a wash and sealed verything with a satin varnish.

Spare track link are going to be added, some oil and washes to the tracks and the suspension, after that a matt varnish and finally dusting and some more streaks etc..

That's a stunning model of a Magach!

I'm also amazed by the fact that it looks you built it completely and then you painted it, if I'm not mistaken.
If you don't mind me asking, I'm interested to know more about your technique as the idea of gluing as much as possible before painting it fully it's very appealing to me. I'm a builder first and a painter second . Probably because I'm scared I'll ruin everything with my paint.

Anyway. Did you paint it with the tracks on? I'm asking as in one of the early photos there does appear to be some overspray on the top length of the track, but in subsequent photos everything is cleaned up and all details painted. As I'm assuming it's not possible by airbrush you probably hand brushed these.

Any tips you can offer? Or steps in your painting technique? As I said, I'm fascinated by the idea of painting it after fully assembled but I can't imagine doing it as I always keep the hull, wheels, tracks, tools, etc separate (and it's a pain to plan all the painting, then try to glue them together while painted, etc)

Much obliged for any explanation.
