A test/teaser photo. I finally got around to opening up an alternative to photobucket. Hopefully I remember how to do this.
Here are the ingredients of a new project of mine. I'll try and get some in-progress photos posted later this evening. The Hansa System building was a lot of fun to put together, probably because I also enjoy LEGO.

What year were you there Patrick?
I did 1976-1977.
Strange place, and well still a lot of good times there, even with those 20 mile road marches in the spring, summer, and that running in anything above 6 degrees.
Good old 2nd Inf.

Here it is. Still doing some detail work on the building. The gutter is from Custom Dioramics. The balcony hasn't been attached to make everything easier to paint. The Hansa System building comes with an 8x8 base. I decided to mount the building to the base on an angle so it mean having to trim some of the sidewalk blocks to fit...some of them still need to be sanded flush with the edge.
Here it is with the Arii Daihatsu Midget in 1/32 scale .
I'll probably make an "asphalt" road with some fine grain sandpaper mounted with spray adhesive.

And here is the stock interior. The second floor is just friction fit for now. There is also a column that isn't attached right now but you can see the studs where it is supposed to go. I'm planning to order a few more of the floor tile blocks so the ground floor extends to the edges of the base.

I had a bunch of extra Hansa bricks from another set so I built a couple walls to divide up the second floor. Both sets are from Verlinden. I know it's probably not practical/possible to have a hot tub on the second floor but...where else am I going to use it.

This figure is from Jaguar. The bricks will be swapped out with some black market goods for her to be selling.

Now I know why the Mec Models commercial sign sets have so many advertisements for barber shops. LOL.

91-92 Camp Humpreys. Since they've relocated the majority of the forces south of the Han there, that base sure looks different than it did when I was there. My old barracks are gone, I don't see a quonset hut anywhere and they got family housing now.

Kinda reminds me of the PI. I spent a year there once in 3 months (Falkland Island War 1982).
I NEVER went downtown to BJ's Smut Hut, Red Lips, and other assorted full prayer service establishments...often as well.

It's a little hallway. At the end is a door to the balcony and there will be (see my next post) a door from each of the rooms that opens to the hall.

It's encouraging to have so many people stopping by to comment and share stories. Thanks guys. Be forewarned, I haven't painted a decent figure in 20 years so don't expect perfection.
Anyway, a minor update.
Added some detail work--light switches and conduit--to the interior side of the walls. Some scratch built walls are shown in various stages of completion. The screen door will be at the end of the hallway, opening up to the balcony.
I was debating whether or not to "wallpaper" the interior walls but I think I'm just going to paint them to look like plaster. Gotta be careful on the search terms I use for research. What gets posted on Armorama stays in Armorama.

Looking real good so far. Just a thought you might just go with a curtain instead of a full door. Don't ask me how I might know such a detail. It was always pretty warm, so a 3/4 length curtain would allow some air to circulate. Wayne

A red velvet curtain. Don't ask me how I know either.

In I-corp a place like that would be uncommon. Maybe in DaNang or even less likely Quang Nghai (also off limits to GI's). Yet there was a thriving business out there. Kind of a shack that sold blocks of straw covered ice, did laundry (and also stole a third of it), sold 33 beer and Japanese whiskey (be thinking Old Crow!), and always had a couple daughters working out of the back room. They also peddled local wares too, and whatever they could recycle off the black market. What is usually referred to as Fat City and Dog Patch as well were full of them. Plus there was at least one in every village that had a population of 100 or more.
If somebody said they were headed to the ice house, you knew they come back with a couple two dollar bottles of 45 Whiskey and ice plus whatever they picked up. A steam bath and massage would often mean your clothes and wallet were headed to the black market. Never go alone!
Of course we had nothing like that within a 40 mile radius (that's what I told my Mom)
