Sometimes when someone says or types mean, insensitive and arrogant things they need to be taken aside and told. Or Maybe occasionally even called out in public if what they say is ridiculous or totally wrongheaded.

Some don't think or realize they're being mean spirited or arrogant but instead see themselves as righteous and upholding all that is just and good with the world.

And some of us love to shout that the emperor has no clothes and hide behind self deprecation and seeing everything as absurd. (My signature does say that "the only thing to be taken seriously is that nothing is to be taken seriously" --
especially ourselves and a hobby that at its core basically consists of gluing molded pieces of plastic together)

As I have said elsewhere, if I say anything out of line, feel free to hit me up the side of the head. It may knock the tiny fragments of brain tissue back into place. Or it may not but I will at least be aware of the concern. The forum has a private message feature for things like that. Also if you really want to tear a work up -- do it in private. Praise in public, criticize in private unless you can provide concrete suggestions on how to correct the errors.

I've stopped posting lately not because of the negative comments , but because of the shortage of time.
I'll be turning 71 in a couple of months, and I've slowed down a lot. It takes a lot of time to do the building, take and edit the Pics. upload them and then finally post them.
My posts have been to show how the kits go together and any fit problems that I find. I don't have the time to super detail the builds and don't appreciate the negative comments such as the ones made on my 1/16th. Jagdtiger build.

Maby I'll start posting again, Maby not.

In some cases it can also be relevant to make some allowance for language difficulties when "our" common language, i.e. English/American/Australian/Irish/Canadian, isn't the posters native language. Asking Google translate for the "English" equivalent of a word could result in a word of the wrong value, same basic meaning but wrong level of "harshness".
There are examples language differences between US and UK English, even at diplomatic level ...

It seems that Large Scale Planes is _the_ place to be for 1/32 builds, info, tips and tricks. And it's extremely active.

I don't know about anyone being "shouted down", but between the dead image links in most Aeroscale build threads started before the summer of '17, and the seemingly low forum usage, I've nigh stopped visiting Aeroscale.
Dead image links and dead threads won't keep the lights on.

Armorama is the first forum I found and I plan on sticking with it. I have experienced digression, on both sides of the fence. As far as photos go, I hope those that a afraid of finding a new host will ask others who have. I won't drop any names, here. I have been slacking, in showing my efforts. I just hate taking the camera out, every couple of hours to show progress and I am actively working on four builds. This makes progress a little slower and I find it difficult to keep up, with my own progress. My other sticking point is that I am a bit of an a-hole(opinionated and stubborn). After hearing Jim's desire to emulate FB, I want to see how the forum is affected.

I was never aware that posting images of one’s own work was a requirement for posting on any site. Some of those who post here may not post pictures of their models but they do post information which some of us value, so I hope you’re not proposing to ban them just because they may also post on other websites (I think that’s allowed too, isn’t it?).

Of course it’s easy to decide that someone is looking for an argument, sometimes because they post something with which one may disagree, although others may regard that as discussion. As long as nobody is breaching the forum rules, then surely that is fine. If they do breach them, then it is perogative of the site administrator to ban them but let’s not be too hasty with that as robust discussion is no bad thing.

Maybe I’m looking in all the wrong places but I haven’t come across any evidence of members actually slagging off another member’s work. Noted the above discussion above about a Review though, I haven’t caught up with that but it clearly sounds unforgivable. To get a better idea of the scale of this problem maybe we need to know how many trolling posts have to be deleted by the on-duty Editor on sight? And if there is such an intervention policy, I wonder why those abusive (?) post(s) were not dealt with in that way if it/they were as bad as recounted? Sorry I just don’t know the whole story.

As for the “closed club”, well I only joined 18 months ago and have felt nothing but generosity & acceptance from old & new members alike and there’s nothing special about me, there’s loads of guys who are more skilled than anything I do. Sure many a time I’ve had zero comments too but is that actually the point? It’s enough for me to know a few hundred looked at it, and I’m delusional enough to believe maybe half of them liked it to some degree. I think most of us know what’s good & what’s not so good about our own work anyway, the comments I value most are ones that point out the latter & I’ll accept a wide spectrum of how that’s expressed short of downright abuse. And I’ll remain slightly skeptical but always grateful for the positive comments. (And I make a point of posting praising or constructive comments for newbies doing stuff in my field of interest too)

The biggest problem I can see – and let’s not get it out of proportion, it’s maybe 2% of all posts at any one time – are the smartarse/pointless/brainless one-liners, and the self-righteous semi-abusive responders who are dumb enough to take their bait instead of ignoring it - and it’s almost always about the announcement of a new kit the world does or doesn’t need.

So why not make a site rule that such comments are confined to a/the dedicated “News” forum where all new products are posted, and just DELETE any threads about them that are started on the other forums. In that way, if people want to look at futile debates they can read down the comments in the News section after they’ve read the original post. Meanwhile all the other forums can be kept free of it.

We try not to delete posts on the site unless they are exceptionally offensive. I do however often contact members by various means asking that they reconsider their behaviour on certain topics. I do this as I would prefer that members make peace rather than feel affronted by the staff, also I would like to think that we are all adults who apart from some off days have the ability to treat each other with respect.
