Operation Epsom punched through the German lines in June 44 at the area held by the 12SS PzDiv northwest of Caen. At its' climax,the bulge created in the lines went all the way to base of hill 112. The tip of that bulge was formed by Scotsmen from various Regts.
My new thing will be trying to those guys some justice in 1/35 scale.
My first guy pieced together from the various bits I have from disparate companies,all plastic(almost).



Masterbox fig,undercut and cleaned up. The rifle and canteen are Tamiya. The rucksack is Masterbox,helmet is Miniart as are the ammo pouches. There will also be a Tamiya e-tool with bayonet scabbard and a Miniart gas mask bag.The head is from Hornet(big surprise there)
No extra detail has been added yet like chin strap and rifle sling,web straps,etc.
What say yea,o experts in Commonwealth gear ?

Derrick-ummmm no idea yet. OK,made up my mind. The guys that went over the Oden and then did a hard right,went down the creek and took the critical bridge. I will have to go back and look at who those blokes were.

Hi Jerry, are you going to scratch the netting/ scrim on the Scotts helmets? I use Ultracast helemts/ heads as the scrim detail is excellent....but I’m a bit lazy too..lol

I used bridal tulle in the past with good results and lead foil for the burlap strips. I used it on my WSS POW dio a few years ago,again with Scottish troops. I would post a pic but they are in Photobucket jail.

Nice work already Jerry , can't really tell from the pic of your fig but does he have an early Brodie helmet on ? Should be the later issue for 1944 .
Least I'm pretty sure .

Never mind , found this pic of the 7th Seaforth Highlanders 15th Scottish Div. Operation Epsom
Appears to be a brodie in the fore ground and later pattern on the two in the background .

Well, you're doing very well with your dio's. Great stuff and your house must be pretty stuffed I guess
For me it's my "winter"-hobby. In spring and summer I'm a voluntairy forrester and wild-life guide ( and photographer). Retired three years ago (at 57) Spring is almost there so scale modelling will be slow the coming months so camping, walking (and the 4-day metal festival in June) will keep me occupied till autumn.
I started a mew dio a few weeks ago (The Collector). There's s blog on my website for those eho might be interested.

Here are the last Commonwealth guys I did a few years ago now,right after my return to figures and vehicles after over a decade building aircraft models.
These guys are also Scotsmen and a famous screen grab from Operation Epsom where they are leading Obersturmf Kuret,his senior NCO and members of his Pioneer Kompanie into captivity. This unit was at ground zero for the steamroller of arty,tanks and troops that hit the 12SS in that Op.
This chappy is wearing a tam under his helmet,which makes it ride high and also his ammo pouches were uneven and not a mistake on my part.





I did my own helmet netting and burlap strips on these. Kinda clumsy.

Thought I captured 1Lt Kuret pretty well from the pics. He looked like he had his Italian fabric jacket removed whilst he was searched,maybe show the cameras he was an SS Officer ?



Many of these guys were wounded.

Hi Jerry,

You will need to remove the bayonet scabbard from the Tamiya entrenching tool, as it is for the earlier model of Lee Enfield rifle. The later MKIV rifle (in the figure's hand) used a much smaller spike bayonet. Miniart include some in their British Infantry tank riders NW Europe kit. Accurate Armour do a set of equipment and resin bayonets too.
