"Upgraded Moulds" = tires and rims from M1120 LHS kit. A good opportunity to kitbash the ITA M978 and TRU M1120 kits.

Nice to hear. I purchased the cargo truck with the add-on armor as a base kit for the PSM HEMMT wrecker conversion. The new tires are a huge upgrade to the split plastic ones in the original cargo version.
I built the fuel truck about six years ago, had to make my own decals for a desert version.... ended up looking a lot like what is provided in the new release version!

The new wheels really add life to this kit. I hope this release generates some new aftermarket items. Maybe some crew figures, as well.

Perfect Scale makes a HEMTT wrecker conversion? Or do you mean Hobby Fan?

I've had the Revell Germany boxing of the 1/35 M977 bouncing around in my stash/partially completed pile for ~18 years. Every 5 years or so I pull it out to finish and usually get stalled shortly after cracking the box. The kit just plain sucks, even for it's time. I'd never buy another boxing of the Italeri sprues again.
Out of a whim, I picked up the DEF XL resin wheel set and now I'm going to push on through the pain to see it done....finally. I even stole an extra pair of MLRS rocket pods from one of my Dragon kits, so it will have a quad stack in the back.

What's so bad about it? Seriously, I have no idea about those kits, the refueller looks tempting though... but really don't want to jump in on a pain to build and rather be warned in advance

with all flaws in the Italieri and the Revell Germany rebox im half tempted to get trumpeter tractor version of the HEMTT and stretch it to make the M977 ,the Italeri kit has been in my stach for at least 3 yrs

I think this review by Cookie Sewell is a fair summary:
http://misc.kitreview.com/armourreviews/m978tankerreviewcs_1.htm
Here is a discussion thread / build log:
http://www.kiwimodeller.com/~kmodel/index.php/forum/operation-desert-storm-25th-anniversary/31044-italeri-1-35-m978-u-s-heavy-fuel-tanker-finished
I would wait and hope that Trumpeter decides to cash in on their HEMTT-chassis by doing more variants. The second option is to kitbash. As the last and final choice I would build the Italeri kit that has been lurking in my stash since the last time they were on the market, and replace the kit wheels with resin wheels of course.

Thanks for the links and info! Will dive into it and make my decision whether to go for one or not...

The Italeri HEMTTs, while long in the tooth, can come out really nicely with a bit of work and maybe a couple AM sets (wheels and interior PE). I recently used the Italeri chassis/cab and added the Trumpeter M983 parts (left over from my M1074 PLS build), along w/an Eduard interior PE set and the Real Model engine to make a very acceptable model. You can see it here.
I do agree that Trumpeter's M983 is the best HEMTT on the market. Hopefully they will continue w/their HEMTT line. The THAAD is out and (hopefully) the M1120 will soon follow, esp. since all the M1120 parts are in the THAAD kit.

Gino, very nice work making the Italeri parts into good looking model.
I'm using the old Eduard 35-162 PE set and I think it's playing a roll in my attitude towards the kit. Some of the PE is very ill fitting. Probably half of this set is useless or too fiddly to bother with.
My biggest gripes about the actual kit are: brittle dark green plastic, cartoon looking wheels, hard to fill ejector pin marks, and a few very poorly fitting sub-assemblies.
That being said, I think the build will look great in the end. I've built up all four MLRS rocket pods and they look great in the back of this beast.

I GUESS that's good news. I already have the kit, and I hate to re-buy newer versions. But those tires are lousy - no way around it. Oh, well, it's only money!
And if Trumpeter wants more of my money, make the Tactical Fire Truck version! It is shown on their Facebook page with a somewhat-cryptic comment about wishes or dreams...I can't imagine they would put something on their site that they weren't planning on making, would they?

I do hope Trumpeter continues with the full line of HEMTT variants. A definite improvement over the Italeri products.
That being said, the changes Italeri has made to their existing kit are much needed improvements and until an entirely new kit comes along the Italeri offering will provide a very usable substitute.
