There's a thread going on the Dragon Ka Tsu already, I've posted below. Bottom line-- the box is big, but the kit only takes up half the box, and sadly, there are lots of issues with the kit-- which is becoming an increasing problem with these newer Dragon kits. Farther down the thread, Graham Tetley says he's writing a review of the kit for Military Model International, and he states based on the poor execution of the kit and the hefty price tag, it's "better left on the shelf".

I too thought it looked interesting, but have changed my opinion about buying it after the reading the issues. The DS track sections obviously from another kit, and the lack of detail in certain areas is really inexcusable. Another "Black Label" style kit I guess.

Dragon must have figured out that the 'Black Label' is more or less a kiss of death so now they don't mark it as Black Label, instead they call it Smart Kit.
The half full is an exaggeration, the parts cover half the surface of the bottom tray but not the full height so I would put it at 35% to 40%.
The tracks are from their Ka-Mi kit and the instructions tell you to use almost two lengths per side, 20 links are to be deleted (cut off) so the ends will have to be joined end to end which feels like a rather poor solution.

Dragon/Cyber-Hobby did have a MagicTrack set

I do not know if it is still available, Spade-Ace also have/had sets for the Ka-Mi.
Cyber-Hobby.com claims to have the 3888 set in stock ...

And Fruil makes tracks for the Type 97 too. Last time I looked, these tracks are the same for the Ka-Mi, meaning they should also fit the Ka Tsu, but that would be a really expensive solution (you'd need at least three sets). I have an old Tamiya Type 97, and had purchased the Fruil tracks for it, but I think I'll save them for my Ka-Mi-- as my Tamiya Type 97 is going to be knocked out anyway. I sure wish Dragon would drop the DS tracks.

Hi guys, was looking at this kit but sounds sadly disappointing. However if you want a cheap alternative to the kit tracks and they are the same as the type97 then maybe try the ones by Vision Models. They can be picked up for around £10 a set. Regards Jason

Thanks for the tip! Will come in handy for my Type 97's.
I have already ordered the MagicTracks for the Ka-Mi. I hope the 'in-stock'-status at Cyber-Hobby.com was correct ....

Robin, if those tracks are out of stock you can use Type 95 ones - I went with a set of ModelKasten workable Type 95's when I mastered up my resin Ka-Mi many years ago.

The Ka-Mi & Ka-Tsu tracks were based on the Type 95 'Ha-Go' and the Type 97 ones are incorrect and likely will not fit the sprocket of the Ka-Tsu.

As to my overall view of this kit, it was mainly one of sheer disappointment. Dragon have, up until now, given us some simply stunning IJA/IJN kits. When I got my Ka-Tsu I also received the new Type 97. They are like chalk and cheese. The new Type-97 Chi-Ha is, in my opinion, as near to perfection in the box as you can get. No detail has been missed and Dragon have to be roundly congratulated for that effort. To then look at the Ka-Tsu and compare them was a shock.

If you must have a ka-Tsu then wait until you get get it for a much reduced price and use it as a superdetailing project. If you are not bothered, re-direct your money into a Dragon Ch-Ha.

I typoed! I did mean Type 95 when I mentioned the Fruil tracks. So-- you are right-- they fit the Ka-Mi, Type 95, and "should" fit the Ka-Tsu as well, and all three could use the same tracks I believe. My Type 95 Fruil tracks fit fine for the Ka-Mi. The "slack" effect is rather nice.
