Just a sneak preview. I'm making this for a dutch museum who asked me if it could be done. 1/35 was way too big so this is on a 1/72 scale ( still 80x50cm).
I'm not really a tankbuilder but it's good money.
I will post some pictures every once in a while here or on my website.
Next week no progress is to be expected since were of to the 4-day Metal festival in Dessel !! ( the older you get......). After that, and when my hands are steady again we'll continu the build.

After 4 days of Heavy Metal (which in this case I do not referr to tanks) my hands are steady again (it takes longer at 61 than it used to take....🍻) I've picked up the work again.
Still a long way to go and indeed, it's braille and that's really small.........
The search for the right figure (not very detailed but the right pose) and the bus was not easy. For the tanks (I'm not a tank-guy and painting 5 tanks isn't too inspiring) I'm using Humbrol Maskol to get the camouflage on it but (on this scale) I'm not very happy with it. Lines are not too sharp and removing the stuff is a lof of work.
Suggestions?

Looking at the images the paint looked brushed on, but maskol explains the roughness. Try blue tack (poster putty), or the uhu brand in germany, or silly putty/panzer putty. Blue tack gives faded edges, panzer putty is sharper. Or you can use masking tape. You captured the look very well, would love to know where the figure is from.

Hi, I used the airbrush for the tanks.
The figure is from shapeways. Put "Printle C Homme 1/72" in the searchbox and you'll find more hits then you can handle. I mailed the developer and he suggested the figure I have used. Great site but too many products.

Progress is made. The road was not an easy job and still needs weathering.
The traffic-arrows took me a while before I got the right method.
The bus isn't 100% in the right position because it is longer then the original one.
Putting the road-arrows and the pedestrian crossing a bit more to the front and back would have caused problems with the position of the tanks.

Really coming along nicely. Iconic subject.

Thanks. I've decided to make a 1/35 version of this scene when the 1/72 is done.
Will use the new Royal Model "tankman" figure, the Trumpeter 59B tank and the Trumpeter track-set for the T59 since the tankmodel comes with rubber tracks.
I will only make one tank. The 1/72 dio is made for a museum but I will keep the 1/35 version myself.

Done. Turned out to be a lot of detailed work because looking (and enlarging) the original picture a lot of unseen detailes turned up like bended fronfenders, machineguns turned foreward or backward, canvas covers on two of the tanks, extra tracks on the front, a small red/white traffic pole and the T-59 turned out to be a T-59B which has a differend barrel. I think I've covered it all. Now on to the 1/35 version ( just one tank)

Bravo Hans you’ve captured that moment so well, particularly impressive given the extra degree of difficulty at 1/72 scale to make it look realistic. I see that hero has been identified as Wang Weilin aged 19 in 1989 but that his fate is still unknown. so likely one of the either 2,700 (Chinese Red Cross) or 10,454 (British Ambassador to China) who died at that place.

You’re too kind Hans, but truly I’m not in that league – still learning slowly, more like “Jack of all trades and Master of none” & not that many trades either. You, me & everyone else has strengths & weaknesses, I guess the trick is how well we can hide the latter! What’s next on your bench?

1/35 version of this event, using the new Royal Model Tankman figure (great company,great service btw ) and ONE Trumpeter T59-B model with a lot of extra's ( tracks, barrels, some PE-stuff ). I like the scene and, since the 1/72 version was a paid job, I like one for myself. I was planning a fantasy-piece with a lot of water, snow and plants but thisone comes first.

Wow, the buyer will have a hard time finishing this in your quality-standard !!

and you are right, without a loupe I'm missing the detail too but i had little choise. In 1/35 scale this would have become too large (and too expensive) but now I'm back to 1/35 scale.

The motherload is almost complete for my 1/35 version of Tankman.
This is going to be my first serious attampt to build a 1/35 tank using all the tricks in the book.....
The Trumpeter tank is an oldie but I couldn't find another ( though Tamiya and Miniart used to make one ) but with all the extra's it should work. Bought the Trumpeter trackset and that's going to be one hell of a job since all the pinholes have to be enlarged.
The Voyager PE set is for a T43-B and Takom but I guess there will be more then enough parts I can use on thisone.

Great example of what I'm aiming for. It's quit accurate (but a bit too clean imo.
