Joe:

We just had a thread on this kit: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/26724&page=1

It should answer most of your questions.

This should cover most questions about the M4A4. Unless Dragon have snuck out an updated A4, it will be one of the earlier incarnations with all their faults.

Hi Joe,

The M4A4 is the same as the earlier (#6121) firefly release, but with a slightly different turret sprue containing the 75mm gun and mantlet instead of the 17 pdr, the sprue still contains the armoured radio box though.

The lower hull is too long but this a simple if somewhat tiresome fix as detailed in Mike Canadays article mentioned above.

There is one further thing, I have got 2 of these kits and one has the Italeri suspension lifted straight out of their Sherman, but interestingly the other has a revised Dragon sprue with their own suspension complete with casting numbers etc

Happy modelling

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the biggest bonehead problem with the new DML Firefly. -- the sunken weld seams. I was kind of shocked when I opened the box for the first time and saw that considering that they weren't there on the original Firefly kit and DML "thoughtfully" added them for us with their new version. It seems quite a bit silly to me considering that sunken welds are one of the big complaints about the Tamiya Shermans. I still haven't been able to figure out why DML would have done this.

The other nitpicky thing that DML did was correct the length of the lower hull the easy/incorrect way rather than the way that Mike Canday (see the M4A4 & FIrefly FAQ link above) shows at his site which would keep all of the underside detail in its correct locations.

Other than those 2 complaints, the kit always was a nice one and the new running gear is superb.
